malar Posted March 26, 2021 Report Posted March 26, 2021 I'm a relative new comer (two months)to scroll saw work. I feel I'm ready to move on to more complicated work. Something I'd like to do is my own patterns. Something a little larger maybe. All patterns I have done fits an 8 1/2" X 11" piece of paper, patterns I have gotten off the web. Can some one suggest a book on pattern design? Quote
Dan Posted March 26, 2021 Report Posted March 26, 2021 Honestly, I'd start with the Scroll Saw University. Travis did a great job walking me through the tutorial to create patterns. I started with Inkscape here. I think there are 6 lessons. He also did a tutorial for GIMP. Both are worth the time. Watch the video first. Then, download and open Inkscape and get familiar with it. Watch the tutorial with Inkscape open and follow his steps. jollyred 1 Quote

don in brooklin on Posted March 29, 2021 Report Posted March 29, 2021 I agree with starting with the University courses here. If you are really keen on Inkscape there is a good course at https://logosbynick.teachable.com/p/inkscape-master-class. Cost is only $17 and Nick demos every feature of Inkscape. There is also a course on GIMP. I design most of my patterns at 8 1/2 x 11 or 8 1/2 x 14 as it easier to proof but when I am thinking bigger I use Acrobat Reader - poster feature. I do sport ribbon racks that I want the finished product to be 15 x 5 1/4 so my pattern is 12x4 so when enlarge 125% i get close. Quote
