Popular Post Badgerboy Posted April 21, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted April 21, 2021 (edited) I was sitting at my scroll saw taking a break looking at the lonely beginning of a poker table I had started 18 years earlier. Back then I had built the outer octagon of the table but then 3 kid’s sports and other activities took precedence and the piece began to gather the wrong kind of dust in the shop. So I unplugged my scrollsaw and became determined to finish the table now that I am retired and living in a different house with a much bigger/nicer shop. It took several weeks to finish with daily zeal to get it done. Built with primarily red oak, the table has a flippable top for poker or board games, we will use both. The table was quite challenging and I did have several issues with the project plans. If I were ever to build this again several modifications to the plans would be necessary. I learned a good deal about veneering and inlay, and upholstering felt which was enjoyable. The finish was interesting albeit time consuming as it started with a aniline dye base, a gel stain overcoat, a shellac seal coat, and finally a top coat of polyurethane. I guess it is time to invite the guys over for poker night finally. Edited April 21, 2021 by Badgerboy flarud, jollyred, wombatie and 9 others 11 1 Quote

preprius Posted April 21, 2021 Report Posted April 21, 2021 That is a beautiful poker table. I like it because the green play area is higher than the the edge. The felt poker chip slots make it look really professional. Serious poker players only. Well that is the way it looks to me. Quote

Charlie E Posted May 6, 2021 Report Posted May 6, 2021 That's beautiful! I'm not a poker player but I enjoy watching Texas hold em tournaments. Those guys are mathematicians! Me and some friends got away for a golf weekend many years ago and we had much more fun playing quarter ante poker at night than golfing. I would think a table like that would add to the fun. Great job! Quote
