i've been chatting with a young lady in Central Kansas area who is looking for a good used saw. A Dewalt, or Delta clone or a Hawk with variable speed and front tension lever. I think she's trying to stay under $400 but for the right saw she may come up some. Not sure. I've been trying my best to educate her on what saws are good and all the different things to be aware of. She originally was looking at an older Delta 2 speed near her but I think I talked her into waiting until the right saw comes along. If anybody in her area knows of a good used saw, please let me know. Thanks.

To bad she's not close to me.. I have a old Delta 2 speed she could have.. My dad bought it new in 1988 and wore it out rebuilt it a couple times, bought himself a new one and gave me the old worn one as parts were obsolete.. but I got online and found all parts and rebuilt it.. used it for a few projects before upgrading to a bigger saw. I've kept it around more because it was his first saw and also my first saw.. but really needs to go to someone that'd use it.. LOL.

I've had a very long conversation with her and I think for the time being, she will be looking at either of the Dewalt/Delta/Wen saws. She's got a craft business and wants to incorporate scroll patterns into her inventory. I tried to convince her to wait for a good used Hegner or Hawk to come along but she's anxious to get up and running and in a year's time she will have made enough money to buy whatever saw her heart desires. She will be coming to the Village soon I'm sure.

Hi Ray, I have a Dewalt and 2 Hawks that I'm not using anymore. All 3 saws comes with their stand and foot switch. I'd be happy to meet her at the Colorado/Kansas border.

Jim

I will let her know. Thanks Jim.

Hi, Jim! I'm very interested. Can you share more details about the saws you have available? Specs? Prices? Thanks!

Jim, she is having trouble navigating/replying to you. Could you shoot her a pm? She wants one of your Hawks.

Hello @aleasha, here are a few links to youtube showing the Hawks. They are both 226VS Models which I think means they are 26" scroll saws. I had no issues with either one and these both come with the newer motors. On the Dewalt I purchased it new off of Amazon on Dec 27, 15 and used it till Dec 30, 17. I had no issues with it. The Dewalt has it's own stand, foot pedal (if I can find it) and it's own light. If anyone can chime in with more info on these please do.

Jim, I am interested in the first one most but, I'd like to know the price for all 3. I may be able to find someone to pick up closer to you than the Kansas-Colorado line or, if you're willing to package, I would look into shipping cost and maybe can pay for that, instead of traveling. You can message me privately, if you'd like.

I advised her to read the manual and watch videos to become familiar with how the tension mechanism works. To me, that's the secret to those saws.

Geez, there shouldn’t  be a secret to tensioning a saw!

The Hawks are a bit different than most. At least I found them to be different. Sort of like a Hegner but different.
