OCtoolguy Posted March 16, 2022 Report Posted March 16, 2022 i've been chatting with a young lady in Central Kansas area who is looking for a good used saw. A Dewalt, or Delta clone or a Hawk with variable speed and front tension lever. I think she's trying to stay under $400 but for the right saw she may come up some. Not sure. I've been trying my best to educate her on what saws are good and all the different things to be aware of. She originally was looking at an older Delta 2 speed near her but I think I talked her into waiting until the right saw comes along. If anybody in her area knows of a good used saw, please let me know. Thanks. amazingkevin 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted March 17, 2022 Report Posted March 17, 2022 To bad she's not close to me.. I have a old Delta 2 speed she could have.. My dad bought it new in 1988 and wore it out rebuilt it a couple times, bought himself a new one and gave me the old worn one as parts were obsolete.. but I got online and found all parts and rebuilt it.. used it for a few projects before upgrading to a bigger saw. I've kept it around more because it was his first saw and also my first saw.. but really needs to go to someone that'd use it.. LOL. OCtoolguy and amazingkevin 1 1 Quote

I've had a very long conversation with her and I think for the time being, she will be looking at either of the Dewalt/Delta/Wen saws. She's got a craft business and wants to incorporate scroll patterns into her inventory. I tried to convince her to wait for a good used Hegner or Hawk to come along but she's anxious to get up and running and in a year's time she will have made enough money to buy whatever saw her heart desires. She will be coming to the Village soon I'm sure. kmmcrafts 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 Well hopefully she takes your advise and buys one of the saws you mentioned.. A lot people go cheap and hate the saw and quit the hobby. OCtoolguy and amazingkevin 2 Quote

She wants one of your Hawks. Quote
jbrowning Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 Hello @aleasha, here are a few links to youtube showing the Hawks. They are both 226VS Models which I think means they are 26" scroll saws. I had no issues with either one and these both come with the newer motors. On the Dewalt I purchased it new off of Amazon on Dec 27, 15 and used it till Dec 30, 17. I had no issues with it. The Dewalt has it's own stand, foot pedal (if I can find it) and it's own light. If anyone can chime in with more info on these please do. This one has a serial number of 06319: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cH4Wks6PNI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1TF2HKtI9w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4bvV0iLCrg This one has a serial number of 10961: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNWVdKFnT_s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3N8Gjr7PIM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5lLl2ISDOQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xH44uwTfWFo Thank you Jim OCtoolguy 1 Quote

I may be able to find someone to pick up closer to you than the Kansas-Colorado line or, if you're willing to package, I would look into shipping cost and maybe can pay for that, instead of traveling. You can message me privately, if you'd like. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted March 25, 2022 Author Report Posted March 25, 2022 From what I have heard it's a done deal with one of Jim's used Hawks. That's great news. Thanks Jim for coming to Aleasha's rescue. I know she's anxious to get up and scrolling. kmmcrafts 1 Quote
