Safe-T-Planer

I am wondering if anyone has had experience with this StewMac Safe-t-Planer?  With all the talk from others about planers/planing, I thought I would look around.  I definitely don't have room for a bench top planer.  Thought this might be a good fit for the smallish pieces that we use.   https://www.stewmac.com/search/?q=safe-t-planer

I used to have one of those. It actually works. You are limited to small pieces of wood, bit it did work. It must be used in a drill press. You can not use it in a hand held drill.

Thanks for the info Dan.  I do have a drill press so that wouldn't be an issue.  I have a friend that provides me with some wood occasionally, but it needs more than just sanding.

Barb, I used one of these in my early days of woodworking before I acquired more machines (and space).  One very important thing before you start using it is to make sure your drill press table is dead flat perpendicular to the drill press spindle.  Otherwise you will be shaving the wood off with just one edge.

Agree with Ray, use push sticks to keep your hands away.  Also, mine leaves some mill marks, and requires some sanding to get a truly flat surface.

Barb, Have you considered a small 6" bench top buzzer, something like this one.?

I have not considered something like this.  At this point, I only have a 4' "bench" in my shop.  Currently it is holding my air compressor for the airbrush.  I guess before I get around to buying anymore tool, I really need to redesign the space and build a longer bench.
