oldhudson Posted July 20, 2022 Report Posted July 20, 2022 Since 2010, when I started collecting Social Security, my check has been deposited at the credit union on the 3rd Wednesday of the month and my wife’s has always been on the 2nd Wednesday. Four months ago, mine switched to 2nd or 3rd Friday and my wife’s 1st or 2nd Friday. We’ve not gotten a notification of changes. I just wondered if anyone else has noticed a change or understands what or why. Thanks for reading. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
meflick Posted July 20, 2022 Report Posted July 20, 2022 (edited) I did a little online research to see if I could find anything about them changing dates. As I’m sure you know, for those who filed after a certain time, the date depends on your birthday which is why yours and your wife’s were on different dates. I did not find anything that said they had changed from Wed. To Fri. I am attaching a couple of items. The first one is the schedule of payments for 2022, the second is a link to the SSA website and the handbook page which details how it is determined which day you would get paid based on the different criteria. It still shows the same info., nothing changed (now we all know the govt, and how it can be slow to make updates so this alone would not mean they didn’t change it. ) The final is a screenshot that lists a phone number and website to check if you have questions or concerns. It was from an article from CNET. Since this occurred 4 months ago, you have not received any written letter from SSA letting you know of a change, and there has been nothing publicly reported (which would have turned up in my online searching if they had made such a system wide change as it would have been widely reported based on the shear number of people who would be affected by such a change,) I would do a couple of things. I would check with my credit union to see if they could explain what had changed and I would check with SSA at the contact information below to see if they could tell me if there was a change for some reason. Which order I did that in would probably be SSA first, if according to them there should not have been a change, I would ask them for advise. Then I would contact the credit union, tell them I had spoken to SSA and ask for them to explain why the checks were not being deposited as they are suppose to be. Someone should be able to help explain it. If you are not comfortable in doing so, perhaps you have an immediate family member who can help you navigate finding out the issue. https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10031-2022.pdf https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.01/handbook-0121.html https://www.cnet.com/personal-finance/social-security-payments-for-july-when-youll-receive-your-money/ this is the link to the full CNET article. OCtoolguy Posted July 20, 2022 Report Posted July 20, 2022 Ours has fluctuated between the 14th and the 22nd of the month. Never know when to expect it. As long as it shows up, I'm happy. jollyred 1 Quote

Social Security checks directly deposited into your account are ACH (Automated Clearing House) transactions. Essentially, they are electronic payments, not physical checks. Once they show up on the Credit Union's ACH list, they are diverted into the correct account that day. Financial Institutions are required to make those funds available the day they show up. My point is that the Credit Union will have no further information than you already do as to why the date was changed. Edited July 25, 2022 by MTCowpoke22 OCtoolguy and meflick 1 1 Quote
