kmmcrafts Posted September 28, 2022 Report Posted September 28, 2022 Stay safe, I know a few other members from the village are in Florida.. My brother lives in New Port Richey as well.. Other day it looked like it was going to go right through there but last I had seen it was a ways south for the hardest part of the storm anyway.. Looks like there's going to be a lot of rain for most all of the state.. Hoping all fair well with this.. we don't get those here in Michigan.. but many say they'd take a hurricane over a blizzard any day.. Not me.. blizzards might make you stuck and have to shelter in place for a couple days but not usually any tree damage or power loss etc.. just a lot of cold and snow, LOL OCtoolguy and ChelCass 2 Quote
Dak0ta52 Posted September 28, 2022 Report Posted September 28, 2022 The way it's project to go at this time I'll catch the edge. They are predicting 35 mph winds with gusts up to 45 mph with 4 to 6 inches of rain. The rain shouldn't be an issue for me because I live on a very sandy hill well away from creeks or streams. These winds will be the first "higher" winds we've had in our area this year. It could mean some downed limbs but after the test of past hurricanes, the trees should be pretty stable. I've already check my generator over because it doesn't take much to loose power in my rural area. One advantage in my area is the large number of hog and turkey farms. The cost of losses at some of these farms can be very high without power so the electric companies try to restore power in these areas as quickly as possible. My prayers are with those more in the path of this storm. I've been through my share and believe me, it isn't fun. Additionally, the rain this storm will bring Tennessee after their recent flooding could easily cause more devastation. I know Denny will have the potential for more impact that what I receive. Be safe, Denny. I'll be wishing the best outcome for you. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Here in Knoxville area, they are saying at most an inch. They said only the mountains to our east have the biggest risk of heavier rains, even with that, not anywhere near what FL and coastal Carolina areas are expected to see. Course we all know that with a storm like this, and any changes in its path and strength can change a lot of things over the next few days. Dak0ta52 and OCtoolguy 1 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted September 29, 2022 Report Posted September 29, 2022 My son is in the Memphis area, not too worried. Maybe because right now he is really in San Fran in a hotel waiting for his next FedEx flight. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

That's where our son & DIL live. Quote
meflick Posted September 29, 2022 Report Posted September 29, 2022 (edited) @OCtoolguy Ray, when did your son and DIL move to Maryville? First, I remember hearing this. I knew you said you had friends with a farm up a little north maybe in Cocke County but don’t remember seeing you had immediate family here in area too. My hubby was born and raised in Maryville. My 95 year old FIL still lives in Maryville in the same house they built and moved into when hubby was 4. His parents were not originally from here, but moved here around 1958/59 for his dad’s work. We are not in Maryville proper, but live in same county close to the Knoxville county line on the river not far from airport. However, that means he can’t be too far away. You guys ever come visit? flarud Posted October 10, 2022 Author Report Posted October 10, 2022 Well we survived another one. All of our fence panels came down, lost power for 3 days, but the flooding around here was the worst that I have ever seen. I have a retention pond behind my house and a ravine beside me. That all flooded along with the rest of my town. No damage to my house except a that a little water came in around the top of one of my windows. I have 2 generators and transfer switches so after the winds died down and I was able to take the bracing off of my garage door I pulled them out and fired them both up. I am able to run the entire house, A/C, hot water heater, stove, microwave, etc. without having to run extension cords everywhere. We were hit on Wednesday and we had plane tickets for Saturday to fly out of Orlando to go up to New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, NY, and Mass. to see the leaves change. We were worried that the Orl airport would still be closed down, but it all worked out. The leaves were amazing! Got home on Wed. evening and I had talked the wife into driving back up to Hickory, NC to go furniture shopping the next morning. Any excuse to get up to NC works for me! Hope everyone faired as well as we did. All in all,, what a crazy vacation! meflick and OCtoolguy 1 1 Quote
