Scrappile Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 I saw this video today and not sure if it would be worth trying.. If I do, I think I will build some kind of cart to move it around on so I can place it close to wherever I am creating dust. Now if you use good Hepa filthers, which I think one should, it is going to cost more than $100. https://ibuildit.ca/blog/small-shop-essential-how-to-make-a-low-cost-air-cleaner/ kmmcrafts 1 Quote
Eplfan2011 Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 Not the same one but when my air cleaner died I made one of these works better than my old commercial unit RabidAlien, kmmcrafts, OCtoolguy and 1 other 4 Quote

With so many places legalizing pot these days you can search eBay and Amazon for pot growers exhaust fan or growers fan.. should turn up quite a few 4 and 6 inch models. I think this set up would work quite well.. Some shop vac filters can be pricey depending on what one you use. He used two of them, since you can build it anyway you like it might be worth looking at some car / tractor / or semi truck filters and see what size and style might be cheaper.. Some diesel pickups use a round filter similar.. I don't know if any of these are cheaper than the shop vac one.. just suggestions to shop around and see what will be cheaper to use. Some swimming pool filters might work. danny and OCtoolguy 2 Quote

Certainly a lot of filter surface area with this set up. OCtoolguy and Eplfan2011 2 Quote
WayneMahler Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 I use a Wen filtering system. Works great but does cost a bit more on initial installation. I will say I am happy with it. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 I wonder if it would be possible to wire it up to a timer. I have a Grizzly ceiling mounted dust filter system and it sure catches quite a lot of dust... all of it? NO.. but it sure does help. One great feature I like about it is I can set the timer and it'll run for 1, 2, or 6 hours on the timer.. If I run any sanders near the end of the day I can just set it to run for an hour after I leave the shop and it'll shut itself off.. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
BadBob Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 I gave the larger Wen filter. It works well for me, and I would greatly miss the timer and remote control. As for making the air filter with vacuum filters, good quality, cleanable filters are expensive. If I had to buy everything, it could cost as much as $150 to build one of these. One of the issues I have with these ideas is that they don't usually come back a year later and tell you how it worked for them. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Eplfan2011 Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 I had the Wen filter too but it quit on me after about 3 years. The filter I built above is controlled by a $10 smart plug so I can turn it on and off with my phone and set a timer or set a on off time. OCtoolguy, kmmcrafts, danny and 1 other 4 Quote
