Popular Post Zoot Fenster Posted November 20, 2022 Popular Post Report Posted November 20, 2022 From Carol Rothman's book. Beech body with mahogany / maple ribbons. First time to tilt the scroll saw. There is a trick to it! Glad I had a spindle sander to shape the insides. Scrappile, frankorona, New Guy and 12 others 14 1 Quote

meflick Posted November 21, 2022 Report Posted November 21, 2022 Another beautiful box you have crafted. Like Paul, I love the color combo with the beech. Also like Paul, I have the book, need to give one a try. I tried one of her bowls when I was first learning on the saw. I only had my Dewalt scroll saw at the time, which meant I had to tilt the table to cut. Found it difficult, at best. I found trying to sand it on the spindle sander even more difficult. 🫤 now that I have a saw where I can tilt the head, and more experience in general, maybe I can do better now. I have seen where some indicated it’s easier to cut when the head is titled versus the table. Quote
rjweb Posted November 22, 2022 Report Posted November 22, 2022 Beautiful craftsmanship, does Carol book give instructions on doing these bowls, her book is on my list to purchase, RJ Quote
Zoot Fenster Posted November 22, 2022 Author Report Posted November 22, 2022 She does, with good pictures. But you can't be too simplistic for me, so I still puzzle over some of the instructions. Going to try another one. This time with curly maple box, mahogany ribbon, bordered with walnut or wenge. If you elect to build one, PM me. I keep detailed notes in the book about what worked and what did not. Thanks to all for the kind words! danny 1 Quote

I am glad I am not the only one. There are a few items that the written directions still don't make sense. Not just Carol's. Zoot Fenster 1 Quote

Bill WIlson Posted December 23, 2022 Report Posted December 23, 2022 (edited) Carol's books are great! I love the creativity and uniqueness of her designs. I have a tilting head Excalibur and it makes cutting the angles infinitely easier than with my old DeWalt. Unfortunately, these projects do require a lot sanding. Some a lot more than others, so I've not tried some of her more elaborate shapes. I've toyed with the idea of getting the Guinevere Sanding System to make it easier. Maybe Santa will bring one next year. Edited December 23, 2022 by Bill WIlson Quote
