Scrappile Posted February 16, 2023 Report Posted February 16, 2023 (edited) I have never had this before. This is my scrolling stool... I've had it several years and it have been serving me well. but lately it is ticking me off. I do not know what has gotten into it. I have had hydraulic chairs that will slowly go down as I sit in them. but this thing, when I get off it or leave scrolling for a few minutes goes UP! What is with that.. everytime I want to use it I have to climb up on it. I am thinking of trying to turn the hydraulic piston upside down and trying to trick it! Dak0ta52 Posted February 17, 2023 Report Posted February 17, 2023 Maybe you've pumped to much gas into the cylinder! kmmcrafts, ChelCass, OCtoolguy and 2 others 1 4 Quote
LarryEA Posted February 17, 2023 Report Posted February 17, 2023 The set screw is significantly too tight – the cylinder is always activated. This results in the chair raising on it's own, and also lowering on it's own when weight is applied. The set screw is slightly too tight – the cylinder is always partially activated. Thanks for the info and where to I look for this set screw? Or were you referring to me as the set screw? Gene Howe, OCtoolguy, ChelCass and 2 others 5 Quote

Dan Posted February 17, 2023 Report Posted February 17, 2023 You should have bought that chair warranty the guy on the phone was trying to sell. BTW, I think that is the exact chair that I have. I got it for $10. They sell new for $200. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

When I got it the screw that you tighten to hold the foot ring was missing.. I call the seller and told them I only need the screw, everything else was fine. She said they would overnight it to me the next day. I received, the screw a new foot ring and a new hydraulic unit.. Sure wish I could remember were I put everything but the screw. It is here somewhere. Searched youtube. lots of fixes for one when the chair won't stay up, but nothing on one that won't stay down! OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Joe W. Posted February 18, 2023 Report Posted February 18, 2023 My wife just came home a couple nights ago with an office chair she found outside an attorney's practice. It's in good condition, but the seat does slowly go down a little over time as she's sitting on it. I was thinking of putting a clamp on it, but I'll look for a set screw first. Thanks for the thought. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Thanks for the thought. If the rest of the chair is in good shape it may be worth replacing the pneumatic hydraulic piston. They are not as expensive as I thought they would be. The one for my stool is a long one, it is right at $30. from Amazon. The chair one are between $20 to $30. Lots of videos on YouTube on how to change them out.
