Walnut oil from the grocery store for child-safe toy finish? Any experience with this oil?

Walnut oil from the grocery store has been suggested elsewhere for food safe wood finishing. Apparently it does harden and has some protective properties but I've never used it. Thinking here of a low sheen on species puzzles. But then again, how could that be used with a child-safe stain or paint accents on a puzzle or toy? Don.

I'd not use walnut oil for sure as many people / kids have allergies to nuts.. I found a recipe on a toy making site years ago and have used and made a lot of it myself over the years.. I put a link to how to make it on my website / blog. https://www.kevskrafts.com/blog There also could be allergies to the mineral oil and beeswax.. so if selling these puzzles I'd make sure the ingredients are marked or known by purchaser.. Just my 2 cents.. Not that the kids are supposed to be eating the pieces, LOL.. I disclose the ingredients and also have a disclaimer to keep out of reach of small children due to choking hazards.
