Zoot Fenster Posted August 17, 2023 Report Posted August 17, 2023 (edited) This is the last of the bowls from Carol Rothman's book. The light maple body is not as dramatic as I would have liked. But intarsia sanders made it easy to make. Thanks for looking! Edit: As LOML did not like the raw wood finish, I sanded it off and dyed it green. She likes it much better! Also learned to slow down the saw when cutting on an angle. It cut just as fast. Much of the energy was vibrating the wood instead of the saw blade. Dave Monk Posted August 17, 2023 Report Posted August 17, 2023 That is an awesome job. I have that book but have not tried to tackle one of the boxes yet. Quote
preprius Posted August 18, 2023 Report Posted August 18, 2023 Hmmm good. It resembles a star fruit. Karl S 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted August 18, 2023 Report Posted August 18, 2023 That is a great looking bowl. If you want whiter wood, try Aspen next time. I purchased some, very white. Quote
Gene Howe Posted August 18, 2023 Report Posted August 18, 2023 Holly, if you can find any, is nearly as white wood as possible.IMO. Anyone tried oxalic acid as a whitening agent? Quote
Zoot Fenster Posted August 18, 2023 Author Report Posted August 18, 2023 Neither holly nor aspen are readily available in the Austin area. But I did buy a 3/4" piece of holly from Ocooch. Really white! Going to be great for eyeballs. Gene Howe 1 Quote
