Ronn Posted October 22, 2023 Report Posted October 22, 2023 Please give me your comments on my pattern. I made this using the Gimp tutorial from Village University. I think that it needs more detail, but I am not sure what. Dan and Dak0ta52 2 Quote
Dan Posted October 22, 2023 Report Posted October 22, 2023 Looks great. I would suggest adding a couple of bridges to her face and ear to make it less fragile. Quote
Ronn Posted October 24, 2023 Author Report Posted October 24, 2023 Dan, Thank you, I totally missed that gap. That could have been a scroll saw disaster Quote
FrankEV Posted October 26, 2023 Report Posted October 26, 2023 There is a drop out in the hat. Needs a bridge. I suggest a bridge at top of left shoulder. The top part of the staff is only conneced by a very small section. I would suggest you create the pattern within a selected document size and change the line work to Red and fill to Grey. Something like this: I arbitrarilly made the pattern 8.5 by 8.5 and the image itself 6.5 by 6.35 (to match your propotions). This would allow the pattern to be cut on typical Letter size paper. I like to give a nom 1" white space around the Images I cut. In your pattern I could not tell where the bottome of the Image would be. If at the edged of a panel, the staff would be a drop out. The image itself is great, just need a little tweeking. Quote
Ronn Posted October 27, 2023 Author Report Posted October 27, 2023 Thank you Frank. What do you think about modifying the pattern and cutting the white area. I would really like to have a multicolored background, so I can make her face green Quote

I would really like to have a multicolored background, so I can make her face green It could be done, but I think, unnecessary. Prior to gluing the cut panel to the backer, you can simply paint her face Green and maybe add some color to the staff just to complete the look. Everything else remains natural wood color. The backer painted black will stand out from the ligt color cut panel nicely. When you paint the face and staff, make sure to cut the vertical cut surfaces of those areas at the same time so not to distract from the image when viewed from an angle. If you modified the pattern to be able to cut out the White, the image becomes a positive that gets superimposed on top of the backer. This would mean you would have to paint the entire cut panel black and also paint the backer under the cut panel to color the face and staff. I would think the prior method above is the way to go. .
