jimmyG Posted October 24, 2023 Report Posted October 24, 2023 Does anyone save used blades for future use? I used to save used bladed by their size especially if it replaced a dull one just to finish a project and didn't see much action. Since blades aren't that expensive now I don't and just stick them all in a jar as a collection for whatever reason. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
BadBob Posted October 24, 2023 Report Posted October 24, 2023 I do sometimes if it hasn't been used much. If I switch to a different size, I will stick the used blade to a magnet to use later. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
barb.j.enders Posted October 24, 2023 Report Posted October 24, 2023 I tend to use older blades for rough cutting, such as separating parts from a larger board. Quote
kmmcrafts Posted October 24, 2023 Report Posted October 24, 2023 Can't say I really save blades but if I just put in a new blade I typically leave it there in the saw if it's not dull yet.. that said, for the most part I use the same size / style blade on most everything so if I finish up a project and the blade is almost new.. I just leave it in the saw for the next project.. IF I finish up a project and the blade was dull I take it out of the saw so I know on my next project that it needs a blade. Having 4 different saws also helps.. IF for some reason I need to use a different size blade.. there is usually a saw open that has no blade in it so instead of removing a good blade from a saw I just go to the open saw that needs a blade anyway..LOL jollyred and jimmyG 2 Quote
Norm Fengstad Posted October 25, 2023 Report Posted October 25, 2023 I drop my used and broken blades in a pan clamped under the saw, I use one saw for everything and if I change a still sharp blade I will attach it to a button magnet on top the saw arm. When the pan gets full I hope to find a metal recycle place rather than put them in the garbage can. Quote
Wichman Posted October 25, 2023 Report Posted October 25, 2023 I use a Hegner with a quick clamp, what this mean is that I can keep blades ready for use by having blade already installed in the bottom clamps. I have four small, four medium, and two large bottom clamps. When I change blades I change four at a time for my primary blade, if I'm doing a lot of cutting with a secondary blade then I will clamp up multiple blades of whatever size I'm using. I use an index card with the sizes written on it to keep me straight. If I need to change sizes then I inspect the blade I am removing and if the blade is not damaged I will save for later use, any damage, any damage at all then into the wastebasket at my feet. Scrappile Posted October 25, 2023 Report Posted October 25, 2023 Every thing I use fits fine in a small size.. a #5 is the biggest blade I have used so far and those only once or twice. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Index card with blades and clamps: That's what I do on the Hawk since it has removable blade clamps like the Hegner. I took a number stamp and I stamped my clamps with a blade size number.. so long as I actually install the right size blade in the right numbered clamp I always know what blade I have loaded in it. Solution OCtoolguy Posted October 26, 2023 Solution Report Posted October 26, 2023 I have all my blades in marked plastic tubes. I cut some plastic drinking straws to a length the fits in the tubes. I per tube. If I have a slightly used blade too good to toss, I put it in the straw tube to separate it from the new blades. It works great and keeps them organized. jimmyG, Mark SW, kmmcrafts and 1 other 4 Quote
