Ron Johnson has a game in Bragging Rights using Canary wood. I’ve made a few birdhouse ornaments with Canary and the wood sure is beautiful and easy to work with. Also seems like you don’t need to put a finish on it. I’ve had a board for over 10 years and it looks as fresh as the ornament that I just finished.
Also, I had a 2x8x12 piece of alder lying around. I’ve never used alder and find that it’s easy to work with and in my opinion, very pretty in a plain sort of way. I made a Penny Drop game using the bandsaw box method, finished with a few coats of shellac.
If there is anyone looking for different woods, these two are certainly worth a try.
