Clara Gideon Posted December 28, 2023 Report Posted December 28, 2023 I'm new to this site & have just ordered the 2023 business kit. I have downloaded it & when I open it there is a page with a logo in the upper left corner that the name & other information can be changed by no patterns. It was my understanding this came with patterns we could import into Inkscape to fill in the names to personalize. The pricing pages are all there also. Again only the patterns are missing. Is it something I'm doing wrong? I'm not computer savvy & to say the least at 72 years of age computers get harder & harder to figure out. Please advise. Thanks. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Travis Posted December 28, 2023 Report Posted December 28, 2023 My guess is that it’s opening in a web browser and you’re only seeing the logo. Make sure you have Inkscape installed on your computer. You can find a free download at Inkscape.org. Once installed, launch Inkscape. Then go to File>Open and browse to your Inkscape file. There’s a video tutorial on the product page that will walk you through the customizing process. Let me know if you run into troubles. Enjoy the kit! OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Clara Gideon Posted December 29, 2023 Author Report Posted December 29, 2023 I know it takes us old folks a long time to figure things out but I'll be ordering some of the past years as well, Know I'll get a lot of custom requests when I start to show this. January is not too early for next Christmas in my book. Thanks a million. OCtoolguy and Travis 2 Quote
Clara Gideon Posted January 12, 2024 Author Report Posted January 12, 2024 Well, I may have spoken too soon. I made a batch of ornaments for the family but when I go back to create another batch, the originals will not duplicate to move the entire pattern to the work sheet. It come in pieces...example, the dove comes over without the name area, then the name comes over without the surrounding bracket making it impossible to piece together. Also the UNION will not join anything on my computer. What am I doing wrong? This is happening on at least 4 of the 8 patterns I have so it's not associated with just 1 set. Thanks for any help. When you copy over the patterns, make sure you draw a marquee box around the whole pattern. Then Ctrl+D to duplicate and drag it over to your page. Once you customize your pattern, select the whole pattern with a marquee box, then go to Path>Union. That should weld everything together. You can check this video demo starting at around 2:22. This demonstrates copying your pattern and unioning everything together. OCtoolguy and Fab4 1 1 Quote
Clara Gideon Posted January 14, 2024 Author Report Posted January 14, 2024 I have drawn the BOX around the entire pattern & it still comes in pieces. I've never tried to bring PART of the pattern to the work area. When it does not come over in a complete format it is very difficult to line up the pieces. Also UNION does nothing. As much as I like the patterns & would really like to order the other sets, if this is normal, they are pretty much useless to me. I'm not the best with computers but usually I can figure it out after a while. Not this time. Guess you could say I'm not a very happy camper right now. Will try downloading them again as a last result. Quote
don in brooklin on Posted January 14, 2024 Report Posted January 14, 2024 When you draw the box around the pattern you want it ctrl- g to group the pattern. Now it ctrl-d to duplicate and then drag to you sheet. You then ungroup. (shift ctrl g) This gives you the ornament with the box to put the name in. Travis and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
BadBob Posted January 14, 2024 Report Posted January 14, 2024 It works fine for me. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

With your pointer tool, draw a box around the whole ornament to select it. Once selected, do Ctrl+D for duplicate. Without clicking anywhere or doing anything, immediately do Ctrl+G for group. This will bind everything together so it moves as a group. Then move your ornament to the page. Now, in order to edit it, you need to ungroup it. Then do Ctrl+Shift+G to ungroup it. Then you can edit your ornament. If worse comes to worse, you can move over individual pieces and reline them back up. There are only 3 pieces, so you can line it up by eye. Just make sure each piece is overlapping each other just a little bit before you do Path>Union. Honestly, you don't even have to do Path>Union if you don't want to. Just be sure not to cut the lines where the pattern parts line up. Path>Union just gets rid of those lines so it's easier to follow. But if you know before hand which lines not to cut, you should be fine. Let me know if you're still having trouble. If so, I can put together a quick video showing what I mean. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
BadBob Posted January 14, 2024 Report Posted January 14, 2024 You can also use copy and paste. That is what I do. Travis and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
