Popular Post Hawk Posted April 9, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted April 9, 2024 Finally finished the dog paw. This is a stained glass pattern I tried to make into an intarsia project. A few things I noticed that can be improved upon. Grain direction, totally messed that up, but with this being my 2nd attempt at intarsia and using a non intarsia pattern I didn't even consider grain direction (oops). When it came to glue up I was edge gluing one piece at a time, huge mistake. Thanks to the folks here that directed me to JGR's blog on glue up, I cut apart what I had glued and followed her way. Much better. Still figuring out finish. The Walnut and purple purpleheart I put a coat of tung oil on first as that seemed to bring out the beauty and color of the wood. The odage orange got really dark with the tung oil so I left that and the bloodwood heart alone After the poly was applied I was surprised to see the osage orange get so dark. Need to do more samples with different finishes. Anyhow, learned a ton and looking forward to the next project, now what to pick jimmyG, jpburcham, barb.j.enders and 12 others 15 Quote
barb.j.enders Posted April 9, 2024 Report Posted April 9, 2024 Well done Chris. If you hadn't pointed out the grain issue, I wouldn't have noticed. I am sure the regular public won't notice either! Hawk 1 Quote
