don in brooklin on Posted September 5, 2024 Report Posted September 5, 2024 Can you give an example of the pattern you are downloading and I will give it a text. I have 2 printers. OCtoolguy and Scrappile 2 Quote
don in brooklin on Posted September 5, 2024 Report Posted September 5, 2024 I downloaded from library and printed on my Lexmark laser, my HP Inkjet. I even tried importing to GIMP and the printed. I get little difference in the darkness on the grey but it is always grey with red stroke. Must be something with your printer. If you import to another program like paint do colours show okay. Then it must be something going on with your printer. Try running the diagnostic page to see the colours. The picture below came the white looks blue but it is white paper. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Scrappile Posted September 6, 2024 Report Posted September 6, 2024 the pattern you show is for me gray fill with red cut lines. That is what I see. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
don in brooklin on Posted September 6, 2024 Report Posted September 6, 2024 I wonder if it is the program that is printing the image. The pattern from Russ is A4 size. Attached are 2 pdfs PDF 1 is the image imported to Inkscape resized to letter size and then the image is in PDF. PDF 2 is the image imported into Inkscape and traced and changed colour to gray, added red stroke. (This is close to what Steve G has) Please print these and let me know. I am running out of ideas. pdf 1.pdf pdf 2.pdf OCtoolguy 1 Quote

FrankEV Posted September 7, 2024 Report Posted September 7, 2024 (edited) This problem, along with a few others, is why I do not like to print Patterns furnished as a JPG. It is actually a picture file that you are printing and the printer can "misinterpret" the colors. Even if I download a JPG pattern I will import it into Inkscape, convert it into a SVG, make sure the line weights are correct (for me .005), change line color to red and select the fill I like...usually very light Grey. Although I keep the SVG on file for future use, for printing and sharing purposes I then export the pattern as a PDF which anyone can print. Who ever wants to use it can even minipulate the pattern size if desired. I really would like the SVV library to use PDF's as well as JPG or PNG files. BadBob Posted September 8, 2024 Report Posted September 8, 2024 I convert everything to SVG using Inscape. I would like them to support SVG if they don't already. Quote
FrankEV Posted September 8, 2024 Report Posted September 8, 2024 1 hour ago, BadBob said: I convert everything to SVG using Inscape. I would like them to support SVG if they don't already. I convert everything to SVG also. However, the SVG file are usually not shared as they tend to be considered personal property of the creator. Many pattern creators elect to 'sell' their patterns and expect credit when used. The really do not want others to change anything. Many others, like myself, will share their patterns for free for anyone to use with no credit given (although nice when it is given). In the distant past it seems the only way to share a pattern was either by a paper copy or, as our hobby moved into the future and PC 'S became popular, as a JPG file, esentually a computer vesion of a paper copy. Back when, printers made B&W copies and only the very expensive printers allowed to enlarge and shrink within limits. Now many printers can print in color and the "RED" Line/GREY fill patterns have become popular. And todays printers do allow a greater degree of enlargement and Shrinkage, as might be desired by the user. That said, this is still using a JPG copy which has limitations as to the color of the image, as it is strickly how the JPG file was created. Many are nothing more that 'screenshots' and the color copied is based on the setting of the computer. If the pattern is exported as a image file from a graphisc program, like Inkscape, the color will be truer to the choice the pattern creater used. Since I use the Open Sourse Inkscape program, which has many 'glitches' I migh add, I find I do not care to print the SVG directly from the program. The printed size is not 100% accurate from print to print. Once my SVG is complete and saved, I do a 'Save As', selecting PDF. I can then make 100% accurated duplicate prints from the PDF file. I also prefer to share using PDF patterns. Those, like yourself, who use a graphics program know that a PDF can be reinserted into the program to produce a SVG file, if there is a need to mainipulate the pattern itself. Yes, a image file (JPG or PNG) can also be inserted into the graphics program, but it takes more operations to make it an viable SVG file. When I share my Patterns in Pattern Exchange, I provide both a JPG and a PDF so all can be satisfied. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
BadBob Posted September 8, 2024 Report Posted September 8, 2024 (edited) PDF is a container, not a format. If you save your SVG file to a PDF, it inserts the SVG file into the PDF container, which is why you can reload it from there. I can't speak to your printer problems since I don't use Windows. Inkscape has never had a glitch and has always printed dead-on accurate sizes. Edited September 8, 2024 by BadBob Corection OCtoolguy 1 Quote
