Wichman Posted November 16, 2024 Report Posted November 16, 2024 (edited) I've started on a large three panel project. The finished piece will be 15" x 22 inches. The panels are 1 x 6 tongue and groove pine. One aspect of the project is to cut out a figure; and then cut the fretwork inside the figure . It should be easier to handle the smaller pieces, I am only worried about the fagility of some of the outside details, the mane and tail. FrankEV Posted November 16, 2024 Report Posted November 16, 2024 I do something similar with some of my Intarsia and segemental work. My suggestion would be to cut the major item from a piece only about 1" longet tha th piece itself. Drill one hole and cut the perimeter. Immediately tape on the back side the major item back into the un broken frame that was created. Dill and cut the fret work without any danger of breaking the major item. Works like a charm. Wichman Posted November 17, 2024 Author Report Posted November 17, 2024 (edited) Frank, Here are two pictures to show what I'm trying to achieve. These are the back of the panel showing the blue staining of the pine. I think it looks like smoke or fog and I like the look. If I was using something with a more plane grain I might try something different ( onlay or overlay ). of Edited November 17, 2024 by Wichman FrankEV and JackJones 2 Quote
Wichman Posted November 22, 2024 Author Report Posted November 22, 2024 I've finished two of the three pieces. I shaded the horses with a charcoal pencil to make them stand out a bit. The silhouette was darkened with a softer charcoal pencil. Just a little white to define the clouds in the top panel. JackJones and barb.j.enders 2 Quote
