I can find a kurl knob, but not the right size stud.  And not the replaceable tip. Thinking of contacting Advance Machinery and asking them where their Come from, but I know to get just one like I want would be cost prohibited.  But who knows?

Paul if you or Kevin @kmmcrafts find one, I would like one for my Hawk as well.  I did replace the upper and lower clamps as soon as I got them with a newer style, but still not super happy with them.  Paul could you take a picture of yours that you have on your Hegner so I can see what you are talking about.

I don't know how large or what style etc you prefer.. so here is a link to many different styles / sizes etc. https://www.mcmaster.com/products/screws/knobs-1~/

There is one in this link that is just a knob you can put on a screw and make as big as you like.. surely you should be able to find a screw with 1/4-20 threads and order one of those knobs..

OR don't spend any money at all and just use some scraps to make a larger knob that'll fit over your existing one and epoxy glue it on? Should be fairly easy to trace your existing knob shape and scroll it out of some scraps and epoxy glue it to your existing knob..

BTW, I order the thumb screws here in bulk.. when one starts slipping I just put it in the trash and grab a new one.. saves frustration of dealing with trying to make sure to sand it perfectly flat etc. This is just a business cost for me.. maybe a hobby person looks at it differently than I do as 30 minutes at $60 and hour, that knob to me isn't worth trying to save, LOL.. I tend to forget that not everyone is wearing the same shoes I do, LOL

@kmmcrafts @MarieC I have checked out McMasters and no score.  I did purchase some kurl screws, they work, but too small of a knob. The "quick-clamp" (bigger knob on the left) is what I want.  It fits me perfectly.  The smaller knobs hurt my thumb and wrist after a while.  Like carpal tunnel.  I have made a wood knob to fit over the original Hawk knob, but I want better. Fussy old man. In reality, the QC is a screw-through knob with a screw screwed in.  It is in the permanently probably with "perma-lock" or something.  I am sure they are made in Germany where the Hegners are made.  This one is a possibility, can drill and tap it to 20x1/4. https://www.mcmaster.com/products/screws/knobs-1~/palm-grip-machinable-hub-knobs/

I’ve had my Hegner for what maybe two years now, I never realized these quick clamps have a spinning insert like the Excalibur and like saws. Had to go unthread mine and check as I thought you had something special. Sure enough mine has that insert too. Wish Hawk would upgrade theirs to be like this. I bet if they had enough people interested they would make a upgrade option for these.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for the suggestion. I discussed it with the owner and while he would love to be able to use the swivel-tipped knobs, that would require a complete redesign of our blade holders and he doesn't feel that it would be beneficial enough to warrant the added width and expense it would require.

Perhaps he will revisit the idea again in the future.

Thank you,

Hope Smith

Office Asst.

Appears the owner overthought it even though I stressed I was only talking about the screw, not the clamp.  I wrote back to try to stress it further.  YOu know take the original out and screw the new one in.  Did not have to redesign anything.

I guess maybe he was thinking that the swivel tip would require a thicker clamp to allow for the length of the swivel.

I just made an adjustment to my DeWalt yesterday to correct this problem. It has the Pegas blade clamps, but the same thing can happen with any clamps.  After tightening the thumb screw about a million times, the set screw can get pushed back so it's not even sticking out past the edge into the space, much less in the middle of it.  So the blade is no longer even touching it when you tighten down the thumb screw.  Just loosen the nut and use an allen wrench to move the set screw back to where it's in the middle of the space.  Don't forget to relighten the nut!

Also, to help with blade slippage right from the start, EVERY time I change blades, I use a paper towel with some alcohol on it to wipe any oil from the ends of the blade. Some blade brands are worse than others.   I just keep a plastic pump dispenser by the saw....like the one in the Dr. office.  Ebay has lots of them, and some are really cute, since nail salons also use them.  Also make sure you keep your oily fingers off the ends of the blade so they don't contribute to the problem.

Wow, I hadn't even looked at that end of things....I will go check plus, I like the alcohol idea.  I do clean in very rarely with alcohol...I may try to do that more often now.  Thanks again!
