Popular Post Allen levine Posted May 27, 2025 Popular Post Report Posted May 27, 2025 More Steve good downloads the door topper was simple the plaque was torture for me i easily broke 20 blades i took a 5/4 piece of sapele and sliced it on tablesaw first then to bandsaw to finish slicing got two pieces approx 3/4 inch between them and used 3/4 inch screws to hold them together close to cutting areas i wasnt sure what size blade the lower i i went the easier the turns but kept breaking or bending i settled finally with several #5 blades a few from pegas and some Flying Dutchman I will mount them after some tung oil onto I'm guessing a piece of round ply and paint it blue the blue ply in pics are scraps if I had wider sapele I would have enlarged the pattern it's above my pay grade and though some won't see it there are tons of errors Steve good I apologize for butchering such a beautiful funny plaque Hawk, JackJones, FrankEV and 11 others 14 Quote
Scrappile Posted May 27, 2025 Report Posted May 27, 2025 Looks like the end result is great. Maybe need to use s a bigger blade for that thick of wood? Quote
Allen levine Posted May 27, 2025 Author Report Posted May 27, 2025 Tried a 7 couldn't make the turns tight enough Quote
barb.j.enders Posted May 28, 2025 Report Posted May 28, 2025 They look great. I am not sure I would be stack cutting that thick of wood. A total of 1.5" is quite thick for stacks, IMHO. You could also try a skip tooth blade. It helps clear the kerf of any sawdust. Quote
Allen levine Posted May 28, 2025 Author Report Posted May 28, 2025 Started another pattern today this one I stacked some left over cherry and walnut 1/4 inch ply and the 3 blade seems to be doing ok with my hands today so I'll see how it goes im mounting the fishing plaques on blue painted pine have a look meflick and ChelCass 2 Quote
Hawk Posted May 28, 2025 Report Posted May 28, 2025 First off, they look great!!! As for cutting thick wood, for me, I kept breaking blades when trying to turn corners, so I have to rethink the corners. What worked for me was to cut in on one side, back up, cut thru waste to the other side, then cut to the corner. Did this regardless of how tight or relaxed the corner was. Seemed to be easier on the blades. But like I said, that worked for me, your results may vary (lol). Still, all in all I think the fish plaque is great!. Chris Allen levine 1 Quote
Allen levine Posted May 28, 2025 Author Report Posted May 28, 2025 I back in and out of a lot of cuts especially when I'm cutting into 3/4 sapele or cherry as I can't turn right corners Quote
