Hide glue is a good choice.

The nature of laser cut boxes is they are difficult to clamp. That's why the CA glues are most commonly used. I've used hide glue for chair repair, but I think it required clamping and 24 hr. set up.

CA glue works.  Yes, you do need an acitvator.  I have read of some that use a mist of water as an activator.  I have never tried that.  You have to be a little careful with it.  It can do damage if it "goes off" on your skin.

- used to sell CA glue in a hobby shop in California and learned that no "accelerator" is necessary.  Water mist or just 20 seconds and blowing on it works just as well! Elmer's white glue, like the kids use in school, sets up in just a few minutes!  That is what i use.
