Dan Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 I listen to old radio programs and on an episode of Fibber McGee and Molly, Fibber talks about hot buttered root beer. Has anyone had this or tried it? I'm curious and want to try some but cannot find a recipe. My mom remembers it from childhood but never tried it. Quote
bobscroll Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 Not heard of that one Dan, I don't think we have anything like that over here in good old England, Sounds interesting, Bob Quote
amazingkevin Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 dan I googled it and it was popular in the 40's but couldn't find much else out about it.unless granma knows! lol Quote
Kepy Posted November 1, 2013 Report Posted November 1, 2013 I would bet that it is like hot buttered rum but substituting root beer for the rum. Quote
ChelCass Posted November 1, 2013 Report Posted November 1, 2013 Here is a simple recipe I found..... Harry Potters Hot Butterbeer Recipe 12oz root beer 1/8 cup butter 1/8 cup cream 1. melt butter 2. Pour root beer in a micro-wave safe glass and heat for 30 seconds or however long it take to get it moderately warm. Warning if it is warmed too much it won't fizz 3. Pour 1 tsp of butter into root beer a little at a time stirring constantly until well blended. 4. Gently stir in cream. 5. It may take a few time to determine just the right amount of butter and cream to make the perfect ButterBeer. If you try this please let us know how it turned out. bobscroll 1 Quote

Dan Posted November 13, 2013 Author Report Posted November 13, 2013 Dick, here's where I listen to and download them: https://archive.org/details/oldtimeradio. Just put a search word in and see what pops up. They also have audio books and text documents/books. I downloaded all the Fibber shows as well as all the CBS Radio Mystery Theater. I don't watch TV (except for special occasions) so I put on these radio shows to unwind at the end of the day. Quote
