  1. Welcome, Ted. I'm glad to see you're enjoying the site. It certainly is a lot of fun talkin' and sharing all things scrolling! We're glad to have you on board!
  2. I've never thought of a furniture scrapper. Does it pull too much on the fretwork?
  3. Nicely done! You certainly like your intricate patterns...LOL. Did you say you like using a 2/0 blade? Its fun to watch a little scrolling get done....especially when you're stuck at work.
  4. Very cool. Its nice to see an artist's work in one spot. I know I get a kick out of looking through the User Gallery.
  5. LOL...If that happened to me, I'm not sure Lowe's would take it back, because after the 5th time, I'd throw it out the window!
  6. Those are great. You should upload those to your user gallery. You can find a tutorial on how to set up a User Gallery here. I'd love to see some more of your stuff!
  7. Hi Margret, Welcome to the village! We're glad to have ya. Lots of great people here. Enjoy your stay!
  8. @tjdcrafts Everybody's welcome to enter the contest. I'd be happy to ship the goodies anywhere the lucky winner happens to be. @leoalls Welcome back to the hobby! Sounds like you got a really nice saw. I look forward to seeing some of your work!
  9. Boy, that turned out great! Nicely done. The teddy bear is a nice touch. I think you're wife will love it! Especially if you fill it with jewelery. I split this topic. You really deserve your own thread. Hope you don't mind.
  10. Those both turned out great! I really like the handsaw. I love the detail in the trees and deer. Nicely done!
  11. I'm with ya! We just moved our computers to the basement/family room, so now we spend a lot more time there as a family. I keep my saw in the next room. I really like that because I can play with the saw, but not feel so disconnected from the family.
  12. Wow, Blame! That was a fantastic overview! Thank you so much for sharing those pictures. LOL...Now I might just have to add that pattern to my cut list and try it myself! Great Job!
  13. Sounds like you're having a great time! Its so much fun to see what you can come up with! The possibilities are almost limitless. When you get a chance, we'd love to see some of your work! Welcome to the forum!
  14. When I upgrade my saw, it'll be to the dewalt. I hear pretty good things about it and it looks like a smooth operation. But I'll have to save my pennies for awhile. I have a few other tools I'd like to add to my shop before I upgrade my saw.
  15. Welcome, Marty! That is so cool to find a scroll saw under the tree. You'll be amazed the number of different kinds of things you can do with such a simple tool. My first piece of advice is to grab some quality scroll saw blades. Don't buy the junk from the big box stores. They're terrible and cost waaaay too much. You'll have much better success with quality blades, and you'll curse a little less too. You'll have to buy them online. There's lots of places to get them. I get mine from Mike's Workshop. He's a really great guy with great service. I know a lot of scrollers really like working with him too. Anyway, ask away! There are a lot of great people here willing to answer any questions you can throw at them. Can't wait to see your first project. Welcome to the addiction....errr...hobby!
  16. A woodburner sounds like a neat idea. I bet that'd add a bit of charm to the piece. I'm going to have to remember that. Thanks!
  17. I was playing around with spiral blades this weekend. Lots of fun, but they create a lot of fuzzies. What do you do to remove the fuzzies on the back of your cuttings?
  18. Nicely done, Handi. Its nice to hear about blade selection. My favorite blade is #3 scroll reverse (FD) with the #5 being my second favorite. I was playing with a #3 spiral blade this weekend to cut my Mr. Bean portrait. I previously used it for my Hitchcock portrait. I think I like it pretty well. Only works on 'organic' types of lines and patterns. If precision is a key or straight and swooping lines, probably not the best blade choice!
  19. I'll post my story. When I lived in LA, I got really needed to scratch that woodworking itch. I did some when I was in college (I was a set and prop designer for college and community theatre). But, being stuck in a 1 bedroom apartment, the best I could do is read magazines and daydream what it would be like to have a workshop. Since I worked in the film industry, I was naturally interested in films too. Well, Scroll Saw Woodworking and Crafts had an article on how to make a cryptix. That was the puzzle vault used in the movie Da Vinci Code. Naturally I had to buy the magazine. I found it all very interesting. The more I read about what the scroll saw could do, the more I wanted one! It wasn't long after that I moved away from Tinsel Town and back to Montana. As soon as I had a garage, I bought a scroll saw. Since I had a new scroll saw, I needed patterns. And being quite an internet sleuth, I found all kinds of stuff. I started Scroll Saw Goodies as a way to bookmark all of these neat resources. I'm constantly amazed what people come up with. They're constantly re-inventing what a scroll saw could do. I find that really exciting. Plus I love the creative outlet. I can complete a project in one or two sittings, which is great when you're running after little kids. Besides, it's just so darn fun!
  20. I hear boiled linseed oil is like that. I think the formula is 1/2 BLO and 1/2 mineral spirits. But I'd imagine if you get something right off the store shelf, it should be OK right out of the can. But if you're having trouble, maybe thin it and see if that works better.
  21. Welcome Fran and Randy! Its good to have you apart of "The Village". Lots of great people here! I think you'll like it. Happy Scrolling!
  22. I bet those 3x4 printable address labels would really work well for intarsia! Or do you suppose most would prefer a handwritten list of woods used?
  23. My son will be going down for a nap in about 45 minutes. I'm looking forward to getting behind the saw for a tish. I wasn't able to get fEZ's patterns printed before the weekend (my work has a really nice laser printer). But I do have a portrait of Mr. Bean that I made awhile back. I think I'll cut that instead. Busy weekend, but at least I get to play a little bit.
  24. That turned out really nice! Don't know what I'd do with a box, but as a plaque, I think it works better. Nicely done!
  25. Hi Handi, I just added support for BlipTV. I'll post instructions in the Help Section on how to use this feature. Basically you use the code after the word /play/ between the tags as below: [blipTV]AeWaJwA[/blipTV] This is a great video. Thanks for sharing. I really liked the polar bear. Can't wait to see the rest of the videos. My dad gave me this tiny drill bit holder that looks like a very small screw driver that I use to poke holes through any tape. I think they call them a pin vice. You can find them at hobby shops. I think modelers use them. Anyway, I posted Handi's video below:
