  1. I'm using a 16" Craftsman scroll saw bought with Christmas, Birthday, and Father's Day gift cards. Some people like the Craftsman, other have had nothing but trouble. I'm in the camp that is pretty happy with his saw. 'Course if somebody offered me a Dewalt (or heaven forbid, an Excalibur, Hawk or the like), I certainly wouldn't pass on the offer! But for the money, my Craftsman does pretty well!
  2. Thanks all. I worked hard to make it easy to navigate without much clutter. I find it frustrating when you're trying to learn something new and you spend all day digging though a website only to come out with nothing! Besides, I'm hoping this will be a place where friends of similar interest can come together and talk about scroll sawing. Enjoy the site. If you're not too camera shy, start a thread and introduce yourself!
  3. Great overview of your work! Nicely done!
  4. Thanks Ben! Yup, any kinda of community is tricky to get going. But I think we got a pretty good start being only a few days old. I just hope everybody likes the new digs and will jump in and start some discussions. I think it has potential and hopefully become a great resource for scrollers! Enjoy the new website! BTW...I really enjoy your website. I'm glad to have you on board!
  5. @lynda Boy, that rifle really turned out sharp! Reminds me of those Lone Ranger shows I use to watch as a kid. My dad made one of those from Wooden Teddy Bear. I think his was a cowboy on a horse. That turned out really neat too. They have a lot of great rifle patterns. What kind of wood did you use? I really like the shine! The cobra is pretty cool too. Nicely done! @ned I know what you mean. I just look for the cool looking projects, only to find out later that the one I chose is really hard....LOL. You did a beautiful job on it though. I also like the name plaque. The wood is awesome! Is it a spaulted wood of some sort?
  6. Congratulations on retirement. My dad will be retiring this year. He just picked up the scrolling hobby. So he'll have plenty of stuff to cut when he has more time. I gotta teach him to use the internet. Then he'd have too much to cut...LOL. I hear ya. I work crazy hours too and have a 2yo to entertain when I get home. It's even hard for me to get in some weekend scrolling. But I give it the ol' college try. At least I'm able to work on the website and live vicariously through others.
  7. That's really cool. I'm guessing it would be considered intarsia since you are using different species of wood and grain direction plays a big part. Most often, intarsia is shaped, almost like a relief carving. Either way, it looks awesome. Nicely done!
  8. I would bet most scrollers get stuck in that loop...LOL. I'm guessing we probably have a stack of patterns a foot thick and keep printing more out every day! I know for a fact that I read and research scrolling MUCH more than I actually scroll! I can't help it. Are you going to try the craft show circuit? I know several scrollers that had some pretty good luck with Etsy.com. I've always wanted to try my hand at selling some of my work. But I think I'll have to wait until life slows down a bit. BTW...I really like your avatar.
  9. I really like that elk. Was that pattern from a magazine? I really like the wood. Oak I assume? How thick? I have 1/8" oak ply laying around. It cuts OK for smaller projects. But I wouldn't mind picking some 1/4" up. Good job on the cutting. I also like your photo setup. Very nice pictures!
  10. I cut this portrait of Alfred Hitchcock a little while back. I got the pattern from AFSSP, but I don't know who the designer is. Does anybody recognize it? I'd like to give credit where credit is due. Thanks
  11. Right now they're on the old blog. I'll continue to keep those there (it'll help your search engine rankings). At some point in the near future, I'll be moving over the links to this new site. I'm still trying to figure out how to handle those, though. I have a few ideas that I think will turn out really cool. Once the forum gets its sea legs, that will be my next project. Speaking of links. If anybody has links to the old Scroll Saw Goodies blog, I'd really appreciate it if you update them to point to http://www.scrollsawgoodies.com (this url automatically forwards to the blog). I also wouldn't complain if you wanted to put a link to Scroll Saw Village. :P
  12. Wow! Very impressive. I wish I could choose my favorite! Maybe that snowman. He's been on my cut list for quite some time now...LOL. The golf plaque is pretty clever too. Nicely done!
  13. I wanna see it! Especially the elk. I really enjoy wildlife projects. Take a couple pix for your user album and show off a little! We'd love to see it.
  14. That is so cool! I've always loved watching luthiers work. I think it would be fun. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no musical ability...just ask my wife! Nicely done. You should upload a few more pictures to your User Gallery. I'd love to see some more!
  15. Yup, everybody's welcome! So jump on in. Enjoy the new website!
  16. Happy New Year! I hope everybody has a happy and prosperous new year. This time of year we often make new year's resolutions? H'bout for scrolling? Do you have any scrolling resolutions? Here's mine: [*:2wgay11f]produce more podcasts [*:2wgay11f]learn a couple new graphics programs [*:2wgay11f]design more patterns [*:2wgay11f]find a little more quality time with my saw [*:2wgay11f]try not to have more than 3 unfinished projects before starting another! Now lets see if I stick to them...LOL
  17. I really like that horse-drawn sleigh. That turned out wonderful. What kind of wood did you use for that? Its definitely on my cut list. I tried my hand at the Welcome sign last year. I was trying to cut it from 3/4" stock and didn't turn out very well. Maybe I'll give it another go now that I've seen yours. This time with some thinner stock! LOL. Nicely done.
  18. Hi Gray, Congratulations on the new computer. I certainly could use a new one. Anyway, there are a lot of different graphics programs that would work. I use Adobe Photoshop mostly. Unfortunately, its a very expensive program and has a steep learning curve. I know a lot of people like Corel Draw, but that is a bit expensive as well. There are a lot of freeware out there too. They might not be as powerful as these professional software, but they are pretty impressive for free software! I like Inkscape(vector based) and Gimp(pixel based). I've also heard of good things about Paint.Net(pixel based). They're all free. You should be able to find some tutorials on YouTube and Google. It'll take a little practice, but I think you'll do fine. Good luck and enjoy your new computer!
  19. That sounds like a lot of fun. Is it a portrait style cutting? I can't wait to see it. I hope you post a picture of your finished product when you're done!
  20. Thanks Handi! Welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy the new website. I edited your previous post to remove your email address. It isn't necessary and sometimes bots like to harvest email addresses from websites for spam lists. I hope you don't mind. I'd just hate for you to get on somebody's list.
  21. I've been working a lot on the new website, which has really cut (pun intended) into my scrolling time. So I desperately need to live vicariously through you! So what project are you currently working on?
  22. Win A Pattern Designer's Pack! To kick things off, we're hosting a little contest. We are giving away a Pattern Designer's Pack. This is royalty-free clipart to be used in designing your own patterns! Entry is easy. All you need to do is register for your free account and post in this thread that you wish to be entered in the contest! It's that easy! Want a better shot at winning? Since you have a new account, jump in and start a thread or two and enjoy the new website! OK...The fine print. Creating multiple accounts to increase your odds are strictly prohibited and will be disqualified. Clipart books may be substituted if they are no longer available. Allow 2-3 weeks for delivery. Void where prohibited, yada yada yada. Lets have fun!
  23. Welcome to the forum! This is a catch-all forum for all things related to scroll sawing. Discuss tips, tricks, tools or anything else remotely related to this wonderful hobby. I know there's a lot to discuss, so let's get started!
  24. Well, this is a forum for you to show off a little. Show off your latest cutting, achievements, shop jigs, new tool, or even a picture of your new grand daughter. If its worth bragging about, this is the place for you! If you post pictures, please use your User Gallery embed code when possible (available on the photo information section). It just keeps things nice and organized and links nicely to your personal gallery. Have fun with this forum!
