  5. That came out great Marg. I can see why folks would want one. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW
  6. Very nicely done Marg. I like that in cedar. As for finishing for me at least I found that if I sealed the work with Tung Oil then a finish would go on. Cedar is a one of those naturally oily woods so you either have to seal the wood so further oil does not make it to the surface or you need to use a solvent and remove the surface oils ( which will come back ) before finishing. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW
  7. Very nicely done Clayton. Thanks for sharing this great cutting with us. DW

  11. Steve great cutting my friend. I do believe that she is going to like that. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW
  12. Gordie I take and drill two 2mm holes about 1 1/2 inches apart and then remove the wood between either with a spiral blade, knife , exacto saw or dremel. To ensure that the customer always gets a clean looking coin slot I will sometimes take a 2 1/4 inch long .025" thin 1 inch wide brass plate and with a jeweler's blade cut a coin slot in the brass plate then fasten that down with the same screws I use on the windows. That brass plate can cover a multitude of bad cuts DW DW
  13. Marg yes this is a new design. It was based on a bunch of tribute banks I was commissioned to do earlier in the year. This particular shape can be a brown bear cub, black bear cub, polar bear cub or a panda depending upon the color scheme. DW
  14. Cut from 5 - 3/4 inch pine panels. The bank is 3 3/4" thick x 7" wide x 10" tall. The paints used are all water based acrylic. The bank was top coated with shellac. DW
  15. That does look like it would have been difficult to pattern with those fonts. Glad you were successful. I think it looks good. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW
  16. Ahh I see what you did. You appended the new stuff to an older post. As mentioned before it generally is better to make a new post for introducing new work as a lot of folks tend to answer / comment on one post and then move on. I saw your pictures of the furniture and it looked pretty good. The real question is does the little girl like it. DW
  17. Nicely done. I like the wood choices that you used. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW
  18. Very nicely done. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW
  19. That is because it got the end grain inside the plys on the plywood. One way to help reduce that is to hit it with a stain prep before staining and then wipe it down real well after the stain has been applied. OR you could stain it much darker and the bleed will not show. DW
  20. Great job Gator. Thanks for sharing these with us. DW
  21. Those look great Ducky. Thanks for sharing theme with us. DW
  22. Kevin one thing you might wish to look into is plywood that has cedar facing. It will be stronger and will not shatter like the full cedar piece can. DW
  23. Sorry to hear of your pain issue I can relate. I like the eagles of the different woods. As for the cedar when working from glue ups of thin stock I have found that it pays to be real aware of the knots and the surrounding wood. One of the things I have found is if I get a knot that is loose then I can drop a couple of drops of super glue along the edges of that loose knot and that helps stabilize the piece. I do the same with any checks from the knot area as well. Working with aromatic cedar is always one of the more "fun" woods to make something large from, being as it has such variable grain strength. DW
  24. Very nicely done. I have done that one with the horses but in clear acrylic, still have not mounted it yet. Thanks for sharing them with us. DW
