  1. Ok suspense time is over. The wood used was Quarter Sawn Oak, American Black Walnut, finished with a semi gloss lacquer. The bowl is done and from the blank I showed you I got this. . . . . . . I used this pattern ( my own design ) had to modify it slightly for size and the corner radius. DW
  2. Excellent work. Would be extra neat if you had the golf ball he used Thanks for sharing it with us. DW
  3. Jim on this one you push on the side of the drawer and it opens up. One could put a pull on it if that is what they wanted I just did not design one for it. I have another box that opens in a similar manner that does have pulls as the sides of the drawer are inside the box and not exposed. DW
  4. I cut stand alone puzzles and I finish them either with tung oil or a semi gloss lacquer. I package them using a shrink wrap. In my case I saved all the plastic that I used on my windows during the winter. I carefully make a pocket for the puzzle then seal it with tape then reshrink it tightly around the puzzle. I also make jigsaw type puzzles and I package those in boxes that I get at the Dollar General. DW
  5. An awesome piece of work Mike.. I can see why they wanted you to make a bunch more for them to give as Christmas gifts. Thanks for sharing your skills with us. DW
  6. Chris I do not have a table saw. I only have a 9 inch band-saw and a router. Just about any cut I need to make that normally can be done on a table saw I can do with those two in combination. DW
  7. This 2 drawer set is 4 1/4 in. wide x 12 in long x 2 1/4 in. thick. Made from poplar and american black walnut. Finished with Semi Gloss lacquer. DW

  15. Not at all ... it is not mine but I found it on the net. 1 Pint of mineral oil - gotten at the grocery store just over 1/2 a cup of packed shaved beeswax ( this amount can vary - the more you add the thicker the paste ) a container with lid.. I got one from the grocery store one of the cheep tupperware knockoffs. Heat the oil to about 150 .. don't go much over that or you could have a flash oil fire when the oil starts to vaporize. Slowly add the beeswax to the hot oil it will dissolve quickly when it is all melted and mixed into the oil pour it into your container let it cool - you can put it in the refrigerator. Since beeswax and Mineral oil will not go rancid on you it will last you a long time. Enjoy DW
  16. Very nicely done. During the Christmas selling season I sell a lot of those compound ornaments. Folks are amazed at how delicate they are. Thanks for sharing them with us. DW
  17. Cutting compound ornaments is fun. You did great on it .. thanks for sharing it with us. DW
  18. Actually Chris straightening out a cup is problematic at best. The problem lies in the fact that the wood is picking up moisture and slightly re-hydrating on one side forming the cup. You might be able to do what you described and get it to work out ok but then again probably not. Most professional furniture and cabinet makers will plane the cup flat. The thinner the wood the more prone to cupping it is but even in 4/4 wood you get cupping. I have seen it even in 2x4s and 2x6s. I would try it your way but be patient for the wood to dry.... like a couple of months. DW
