here is my attempt at segmentation. This was made as a gift for a good friend that loves Notre Dame. Cut from one piece (cottonwood), then painted with watered down acrylic paints. I don't normally paint or stain wood, I like seeing the natural wood. The face and hands are the natural color of the wood though. It measures roughly 12" X 14".
Here is the eagle intarsia I have been working on. It is 30" x 34". made from - aspen, walnut, poplar, northern white cedar, yellowheart, aromatic red cedar, paduak, and wenge
The intarsia bug bites hard too. No problem with doing both.
I usually have a couple intarsia projects in various stages, along with other scrolling projects. When I need a break from one I work on another.
