  2. how was the buckeye burl to cut? I have made pens from it and it has always been soft, very soft in spots. where did you get that size of piece?

  4. Thanks guys. Gator - yes the Dove is cut from basswood. This was actually the first time I have used basswood, I normally use aspen. It cuts very well.

  6. and the last one. it's made from walnut, box elder, aspen, curly maple, sassafrass, and cottonwood.
  7. Here is the second one completed. It is made from - curly ambrosia maple, sassafrass, butternut,walnut, and wenge.
  8. Here is one of three new intarsias I have just finished. This one is made from old spalting walnut, maple, sassafrass, boxelder, and basswood.
  9. Hi Thomas, welcome to the village. My thoughts about your blades breaking would be to much tension and or pushing to hard into the blade.

  13. you never know when you are going to need that one little piece. I have friends that bring me wood all the time. today one was cutting down an elm tree and brought me two burls from it. the shop where I buy my wood always save me cutoffs with wild and crazy grain. my scrap bins are always over flowing with little pieces left from my intarsia. I just can't bring myself to burn it, so I box it up and give it to other wood hoarders. Yes, my name is Clayton and I am a wood hoarder.

  16. I have use flocking for my boxes and pen trays. I used acrylic paint the same color as the flocking with no problems.
  17. I have a couple intarsia ready to go,and a couple new turning kits to try. I also want to start on my semi and lowboy with dozer
  18. Thanks for all the comments. I gave them to the guy and he loved them. He kept telling me thanks and I didn't have to. I told him he didn't have to help me the way he did, but he did. It's great to see someones face light, and the appreciation from giving them something you've made. Thanks to all the pattern designers, that make this possible.
  19. I prefer to use reverse tooth flat blades. I can get a straighter cut and sharper corners. I only use spirals for larger cuttings where I don't have room to turn the whole piece. But still prefer te regular flat blades.I use flying Dutchman blades for both flat and spiral.
