  6. Not sure where to put this but just read the note below on another site. Sure hope it is not true, Dirk got me really interested in scrolling over 30 years ago and his patterns and work have always been great. This fellow was really one of the good ones. Will miss him "I just read where Dirk Boelman passed away last night of a heart attack around 8 P.M. while out with friends . R . I . P " jim penquin

  13. Nice looking cutting and smart way to handle a difficult pattern. I do the same thing a lot of times. I will increase the size of a pattern till I have it when I can cut it reasonalbly without getting to worried about running off and cutting off something that should be saved. jim penquin
  14. That is one seriously bad looking dude. Would not want to mess with him. Great job on the cutting looks great. jim penquin
  15. The Orange country fair opened on Firday and our daughter went and sent us this photo. Can't believe it I got a 1st and 2nd place ribbon in the competition. Feel almost like I hit the lotto. The first place winner is "First Fathers" the Mount Rushmore project with the Native Amerian chiefs below. The second place winner is a pattern my a fellow named Mrsaw from 2006. It is an interpetation of the Vietnam Veterans Stature in Washington DC that is next to the Wall. Thank you pattern makers. Both are about 16 X 18 inch. The First Fathers is on a piece of wood about 1/2 inch think that has a natural edge and I really like the grain in it. The Vietnam stature is 1/8 Oak ply and I did stack cut 3. It is framed with wood I saved from the drawers of an old dresser that was trashed and I kept the drawers and used the frount part and rip it and routed it over and made the stock for the frames. I'm going to stop now, I am so pumped up I could rattle on for ever. jim penquin

  22. Everything looks super, really got a kick out of the plaque but wonder if more contrast would of made it easier to see and read. The words and fish seem to blend in with the background. Love the vases been thinking about that ebook Steve has available. Thanks for sharing your works. jim penquin
  23. Both of them in one day. Your a better cutter than me. I am lucky I get one done sometimes. Both look super, very well done. jim penquin
  24. Saw someone doing something like this and wanted to take a shot at it. Finally found a place to buy bamboo flats and tried it. The bamboo is 2 inch wide and they sell it in lengths 8 feet long. I glued it to 1/8 luan plywood and weight it down since they are not really flat but close and you mostly glue the edges of the strips. Then put the pattern on and cut away. Gave it a spray of Krylon clear gloss and that was it. If anyone in the US is interested in doing this look for Cane or Bamboo supply places. I dealt with: Frank's Cane & Rush supply 7252 Heil Ave Huntington Beach CA 92647 714-843-5645 www.frankSupply.com They cost 7.60 for a 8 foot strip. I would think they could cut it down and pack it and ship for extra. Not as reasonable as plywood but I like the effect. jim penquin
  25. WOW looks like you really put your heart into your work today. Just kidding they all look great. jim penquin
