  1. Beautiful job on the cross! Just my two cents...there are some glues that dry clear ( I use Weldbond)..might be something to consider. Just a nice thin coat should do it...Something like what you did I'd put another piece of wood on top then grab one of the bazillion paint cans I have in my basement for weight, and let it sit the night.
  2. Looks like I'm the first to post a pic: I made this for my niece for Christmas. My family is getting together at her house to celebrate her 40th birthday and an early Chirstmas. I haven't seen them for a couple years...it's a long drive from western PA to Maine, where we usually gather. Tomorrow I'm leaving for her house in Connecticut..still quite a drive. This is a pattern that I designed, so I also posted in the new patterns for anyone who would like it. Now that I posted the pattern...I see that there is already a copy in the new pattern section. Travis...feel free to delete my duplicate.
  3. This is my fall creation...thanks to Steve Good for the Owl pattern!
  4. ....you have more patterns than you could ever cut in 50 lifetimes....and daily add to the collection!
  5. Or word art?
  6. Just got my T-shirt from CafePress....the design looks great. Thanks again for all who voted on my design!
  7. http://www.meiselwoodhobby.com/Home.aspx One I've used a couple times.
  8. Another design I came up with: (the website is there...if you look closely at the scrollsaw )
  9. A nice easy one:
  10. Here's my entry:
  11. Hey, great job...looks like you've got the pattern making knack for sure!
  12. I'd have to say my drill press, followed closely by my mop sander.
  13. And another version: And a question for Travis: I just kinda "eyeballed" the heart placement, but I'm sure there's a method- in inkscape maybe? - to get them perfectly symmetrical? Or maybe this will be part of our pattern making school lessons?
  14. I'll start things off with my Moms Rock trivit pattern: (I have not cut this yet...just showing what it would look like with a wood fill color.)
  15. AWESOME JOB, FRAN!!!! I love it!
  16. I have a 20" Craftsman Professional model. I was going through switches when I first got it, so I attached a footpedal(I see that now some come with a foot pedal) I find the blower works fine..just had to replace the little bellows inside cause it sat for a while in one position - just a couple dollars. I also changed the bottom blade change screw (a hex screw came with it I think) to a T-handle screw so I don't need a tool, although I often give it just a nudge with a pair of needlenosed pliers I keep handy. I've had it for years, and it's always worked great. For a zero clearance plate I used an old shiny surfaced postcard cut out and glued to the plastic insert with some spray adhesive. When it wears out, I just grab another postcard. I keep a little sanding block handy ( to clean up the back after each cut) and my blades of course, and an old blade to poke small pieces out as I cut. Also have a magnifier light set up when I need to work on real fine stuff. Shelayla - I'm pretty sure everyone is talking about the hold-down foot that comes with the saw.(did mine come with one?? lol)..designed as a safety feature to hold the wood against the table. I love my foot control...I would recommend you try yours before returning it.
  17. I'd very much be interested; I use inkscape just to "finish" off most of my patterns, but I can see there's a lot more to the program. I found your videos very helpful Travis, thanks for sharing those-I didn't realize you could change the outline and the interior color in such an easy step. Count me in!
  18. Great job..Iove Gayle's series of spirit patterns.
  19. Thanks realFez for the pattern. Made this for my bosses birthday.
  20. Travis, I had some 8" wide poplar, yes, 1" (which is actually 3/4" for those who don't know the confusing way wood sizes can be ) The only thing they don't mention in the book is when you go to cut the basket part-at an angle-the HOLES should also be drilled at an angle. Otherwise, the book is very clear, and gives step by step instructions for bandsaws and scrollsaws. I actually use both-cut the straight lines quick with the bandsaw(like the base), sand it perfect with my disc sander, then cut the rest with the scrollsaw.
  21. First time I do one of these...wasn't hard at all. Wood used is poplar.

    Hello

Thanks for adding me to your group. I"ve already found some good tips by looking around...the Village looks like a great place. I recognize some names from other groups. My name is Jo ( I go by joscrolls) I've been scrolling for quite a few years on my trusty Craftsman 20". I live in western PS but my heart is still in my home state of Maine. Mostly I like doing fretwork style pieces, and I do a pretty fair job at making patterns with my Paint Shop Pro program. I just finished my first collapsible basket...will post a pic here when I figure out how. Look forward to chatting with all of you! ~joscrolls
