  1. Who in White Bear sells BB? I moved to the other side of the cities, but used to live over there and didn't know there was a place other than rockler. I would buy the good stuff. Maybe you can find someone to split an order and share the $200 minimum.
  2. good luck with your puzzles! I hope you come back and show them to us.
  3. Looks like it qualifies for bragging rights to me! keep practicing it will get better.
  4. i hadn't been since they got a new website, it looks good!
  5. I definitely have company on the beach
  6. Framed and waiting to hang on the wall.
  7. This project has been in the works all summer but this weekend I got it done. A while a go I asked for a beach pattern and got some awesome responses. This is one by Russell. I was originally going to cut the pattern as an 11x14 buy as I was printing it out I thought it would look cool divided in half as a set of 8x10's I will be framing it later today, and will update with the finished product. Thanks for looking! And Russell, thanks for the pattern! Katie
  8. If they are designed for a hand tools they will probably not hold up to the speed and pressure of the scroll saw. I don't exactly know what a piercing saw is. Put one in the saw and see what it does. It shouldn't do any harm to the saw.
  9. I have bought lots of patterns from various people. I love Sheila's patterns. for me it comes down to where I can find the things I want to cut. I buy some, make some, use some free.
  10. I like both Flying Dutchman and Olson blades. You might want to consider ordering a dozen or two to try out before you commit to a full gross. One of the types of Olson are a little weird and take some getting used to. I think it was the precision ground series.
  11. Awesome project. A great way to display the little horse.
  12. If you have a Hegnar, you will likely never be satisfied with any of the lesser models, even as a back up. The porter cable is the best saw under $200, but it pales in comparison to the Dewalt at $500. I think there is a 16" Ex for $600 If you really need to have a second saw in the garage right away, and only want to spend $350. I would go with the Porter Cable or look around to see if you can find a sale/used Dewalt. If it was me, I would go buy other tools or wood and stick to one scroll saw.
  13. If it has been well taken care of you are getting a great deal! congrats.
  14. I have given several pieces to family for this reason. As for advise on your finish. Try a satin or semi-gloss for the less shiny look. water based poly is the least ambering of the normal finish options, it won't change the color of the wood as much.
  15. I am glad you are back! I was wondering where you had run off to. All of your projects are great, as always. I look forward to seeing what else you are working on. Katie
  16. I use a layer of painters tape, then glue the paper to the tape using general school/craft glue sticks. I like having a method that I can use indoors without getting high.
  17. Blue Pine isn't a specific species of wood, it is actually considered a defect. It is a stain that comes from a beetle infestation that kills the tree.I have a few examples of the wood that I use when talking about "defects" with my students. We discuss how some defects are structural and always avoided for projects and how others are more a matter of preference. Knotty Cedar, and the various figured maple are other great examples
  18. I use glass on most of mine. I like the look and the dust protection.
  19. I use Flying Dutchman blades most, but I also really like Olson blades. The nice thing about Olson blades is that some of the local stores carry them, so I can get them the day I need them (or tell people who like to give gifts). Menards, Ace and Rockler all carry them around me.
  20. Who's nativity pattern is that. It looks beautiful the way you cut it. Great job on all of these.
  21. I started scrolling 9 years ago. I got a job teaching woodshop and we had a couple of scroll saws in the shop. I bought a book and started searching online. I practiced a lot and started to teach my middle school kids to use the scroll saw for our projects at school. This forum, is amazing! you will find so much great help from the members. if you have any questions just ask, an answer will be up shortly. Katie
  22. Gimp is better for photo patterns. I look forward to seeing what you create! Good luck.
  23. wow! that is a lot of letters to cut out! great job.
  24. are you using the angled cut method?
