  5. Its summer's eve here, leaves are falling and I'm cutting fire wood for my wood stove,no fun scrolling in a cold basement so I must be prepared.I cut and split it a year in advance so it will be aged and not green.Next job is to get the snow blower ready to go.
  6. Wow! Never thought I would try making bowls, after watching that video I might give it a go.What size blade do you think one should use?I'm thinking a #7 or larger to prevent drifting off the line. Thanks for posting that.John
  7. The one problem I have with pine is even though I sand the cutting surface and cover the pattern with clear packing tape if the wood has much pitch in it the saw dust piles up in damp curls on the cutting line and the blower does not remove it very well .I have to stop and brush it off.Wondering if any one has a solution to this problem??
  8. I have used a kids coloring book for patterns,I altered some pictures to use as a pattern for personal use.Not sure if I broke a copyright law??
  9. I also have a craftsman fixed speed that only takes pinned blades,I bought the kit from sears but one of the adapter pieces went flying off when I tried it so I returned it deeming it unsafe to use.I hope you have better luck with yours.John

  17. Do you have any sources or ideas on where to obtain free wood?I have a large wine store near me that gets most imported wine in wooden boxes that are discarded.I have obtained many of these free and made many projects with the wood most of it is 1/4 to 1/2" thick and various types of pine.Another source is flooring I was able to find discarded oak and maple most 3/4 to 1 " thick but only 3" max wide but good for name plates and funny signs
  18. I have also removed the pins by holding them with a pliers, rotating them back and forth a few times to loosen then they just pull off then I cut them to 5 "long with a diagonal cutting pliers as the pin end blades then to be a bit longer than plain end ones
  19. I"ve had the same good experince with Mike. Great Service and his FD blades are the best I have found.
  20. Hi,I'm the son of a Swedish carpenter who never wanted to teach me the skills,in his day there were no power tools, work was hard and once you reached your 40s the builders looked for younger workers. So I studied got into electronics, worked on the Apollo moon program, today with the advance in technology I couldn't fix my TV set.Scrolling takes my mind off the troubled world and away from the TV.This looks like a great group/site,hope it keeps growing.Good luck.
  21. The orig bellows and hose was NG on this old sears saw .I took a 2 inch muffen fan from a PC,mounted it on the fixed arm with # 10 copper wire, powered it with a 110 vac to 12 vdc radio shack converter. It runs real quiet and removes all saw dust from the work area.
  22. I bought a 16" sears vary speed saw at a tag sale for $5 the original blower and hose was a dried up and NG.I had a 2 inch muffin blower from a pc,hung it with 10 gage copper wire from the stationary arm so I could adjust it.I used a radio shack 120 vac to 12 v dc converter to power it.Its very quiet and takes all saw dust off the entire work surface. It was well worth the effort to add this. When I get a chance I will post a picture. No more huff & puff for me.
