  1. Great idea for last minute gifts! Good looking cuts! Ervin
  2. Great looking puzzles and really clean cuts ! I like the way you photographed them by having them apart . Thanks for showing them. Ervin
  3. Very nice cuts on your ornaments. I do craft shows here in southern NM and tried ornaments a couple of times plain and painted didnt have much luck with them but I am going to try a few newer ones for the next 3 shows and see how they go. Again very nice cuts!! Ervin
  4. That is really nice and the combination of woods is outstanding!! Great job!! Ervin
  5. Now I will put in my 2 cents worth. LOL When I started scrolling 5 years ago it was with a sprial blade that came with the saw which was new. I thank back on that and I believe it was a mistake from the factory as the other 2 saws that I have both had the flat blades supplied. Any ways if you will start out with the speed low and just guide the wood or float the wood into the blade your flexing will go away. As for tension if you can move the blade back more than 1/8 inch, thighten it some more. I would start with the flat blades first until you get used to cutting stright lines, circles, curves, etc. than you can go to the sprial blades and see which one you like best. I use one about as much as the other depending on the subject and wood. But by all means have fun with this new "toy" and make lots of sawdust!! Ervin
  6. Maybe I can help some. When you are drilling for the blade inserts do you have a scrape piece of wood underneath your BB? If not it will splenter. It does help to use reverse blades and to stack cut at least 2 thickness. I have cut 6mm or 1/4 inch with just the one piece but had to do it slow. Ervin

    Ring

This is a great idea! Although I don't have any really thick wood a person could laminate several layers together and come up with something differant. Now I know what I can do with some of that Teak wood that I was given. More projects for the future! Thanks for sharing your idea with us and what a great job you did on your ring!! Ervin
  8. I have added some photos of our booth we had at the 19th "Cottonwood Festival" held here in Alamogordo,NM over the 3 day Labor Day weekend. It was a very good show for us as we were only down $50 from last year. The rain and wind held off until the last 30 minutes of the festival monday afternoon. Now I have to get busy and build up stock for a show over in Seminole,TX the 18,19,20th of this month. Ervin
  9. I have added 4 new cuts in my album.All 4 are requests from 2 customers.Take a look,and comments welcome!! Ervin
  10. Thats a great cut and the frame sets it off very nice. Now I know what I can do with some of the mahogany boards that was given to me. The boards were originally a packing crate from overseas. I aquried about 17 board feet 3/4 in by 11in wide. The only thing it is luan or philipin mahogany but still good wood! Ervin

    vase

Nice looking vase! Using pine puts a diffrant look to it. Are you going to leave it the natural look or stain or paint? Great job cutting and lining every thing up. Ervin
  12. Its been many, many years since I have wet a line, but I remember the big mouth bass doing just that when I was with dad on the banks of a lake!! Great cut of one!! Ervin
  13. Thats a beautiful cross and you do a great job on the other crosses in your web site. I had been wondering about the prices that I have on on the diffrant crosses that I sell at craft shows and it appears I am in the ball park. lol. Great work!! Ervin
  14. Thanks for all of the input and concerns for safety which was on my mind when I ask the question.I have a friend across the alley that does cabnet work when he's not working at Lowes.I might see if I can get him to slice a few of these blocks with his band saw or possably use his planer. I want to use the peices for inlays on boxes and crosses,I know there has to be a use for them! Again thanks for the input and rest asured safty first!! Ervin
  15. I have been given a bunch of short pieces of teak wood (about 1/2 in. to 3/4 in.thick X one and half to 2 in.wide x 3in. long. My problem is I do not have a band saw to cut them thinner. I have tried it with the scroll saw and a #12 blade but still slow and not very stright. Any body know how I would make a jig to use with a table saw? I havent been able to come up with any thing that would be safe. Any ideas? Ervin
  16. Good evening. I have added some more photos to my album. The fire fighters cross design by Sue May is cut from 3/4 in. red oak.I cut a total of 3 to donate to the Boles Acres volunteer fire dept. The lady that works at the print shop where I have all my patterns enlarged or the large ones copied ask if I would do 3 of that pattern and what would the cost be. Since it is for the dept no charge. I hope they like them for what erer use they have in mind. Ervin
  17. Kardar2, Your idea of a small photo album will work. Take a picture of each item to make the album. Also if you have the time on week ends you might consider craft shows in your area. I do about 10 shows a year, mostly in the fall, Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec. Here in southern NM we do really well as we(my wife & myself) dont have any other scrollers doing the shows which I dont understand. Just a thought, but try the album idea you may be amazed at the response!! Ervin
  18. If you are a beginner you have a great talant with your scrollsaw. Excellant work!!! Ervin
  19. Just created a new album.Take a look and comments welcome. two saws
  20. Barry, The native american that appeared in the commerials was Iron Eyes Cody. Wish it could be brought back. Ervin
  21. I too strighten the ends of spiral blades but I do it differant than what has been mentioned. I have a small bench vice with a small anvil on it. With a tack hammer or just a small hammer very carefully tap the ends to flatten them. For me this is easier than twisting them and possably breaking. The only spiral blades that I will use are FD new spiral 2/0 or #1s. I have some #3s but do not know what I would use them for. Way to big of a kerf!! Ervin
  22. OK, now all I have to do is contact the 1st National purse, aka my wife, to see if I can float a loan!! lol We have been looking for something like this to wear at the craft shows. These would be ideal. Congrats to Jo for the winning design!!!! Ervin
  23. My first post here but would like to add my two cents . I too vacum after each session and will oil all the bearings and the 2 oil cups provided (Delta P-20) and clean & wax the table when the wood begins to drag. Being here in NM not much worry about rust but we do have some dust storms in the spring. That is about all of the maintance i do, just try and keep it clean as possable. Ervin
  24. My name is Ervin from New Mexico and I have been scrolling for about 5 years after retiring from over the road truck driver. Need less to say I did not know any thing about wood working except that wood came from trees ,lol. Any way having picked up a book about scrolling some years back it looked like something I would like to try. I was able to obtain a Dremel saw and stand from Home Depot that had been on display for a very good price and with a pattern of a christmas ornament and some scrap wood I cut it out and even surprised my self! I showed it to a friend that did a little scrolling and was told that it was very good for a first time cut. From that beginning it snowballed to where my wife,Ruby, and myself have been doing craft shows and having fun meeting all of the crafters and customers and exchangeing ideas with them. Sorry about all the rambling but I will check back in from time to time and will try to start an album Ervin
