  1. Awesome! Where do you get these braided blanks? Dan
  2. Excellent job! The fish even has an "Oh, s&$#*t" expression. Love it. Dan
  3. I've used spar varnish and urethanes on outdoor signs and haven't had any problems. In fact, I have a house sign that has three coats of spar urethane from six years ago and it still looks great. Just be sure to apply it to all sides and surfaces. Dan
  4. Hi Dave. I replace heavier blades (#5 and up) when it either starts burning the wood or when I have to use too much pressure. On thinner blades, I never have the problem with burning the wood, so I just change them when they don't seem to cut well. If you are happy with the blade you're using, keep using it. Eventually you'll get use to knowing when the blade is dull and change it at that time. I'm a tightwad so I probably use my blades longer than I should (as exhibited by more frequent blade breakage). Hello

Welcome to the village Kenney! Keep working on your woodburning because when you do start scrolling, you will be able to do some amazing things with your scrolled work. There are some folks here that add some great details to their fretwork and portraits with their woodburning tools. Great to have you aboard. Dan
  6. Well, I was going to cut this but I seem to be running out of time, so I decided to just submit the pattern. The idea is to cut this out of 3 or 4 contrasting colors of wood (or paint the pieces different colors). Here's the pattern. If anyone uses this pattern, please post a picture of the finished product. Thanks for looking. Dan
  7. Great looking piece! And congrats o "First Prize". Dan
  8. Welcome Roy. This place will get you excited about scrolling more. If you've been scrolling for 5 yrs. you have pictures to show, right? Do you design your own boxes?
  9. Welcome to the Villlage.
  10. Here's a welcome from Kentucky. Dan
  11. Excellent paint job! Love it.
  12. Mr. Tippy, If you are making a stand (as opposed to a bench) I'd make it with three legs as this should guarantee a stable surface. I'd make the table heavy and bolt the saw to the stand. I guess if you keep the fridge full, that would also be enough weight. A blade holder is definitely a must. I take it the box fan is for dust removal. Another great idea. If you mount the fan to the stand, make it easily removable incase your work is large and hits the fan. Also, if your eye sight is like mine, a lighted magnifying glass is also a plus. If it wasn't for the mag lamp, my lines would look like the fridge was empty. Yeah, all this input is from experience, or lack of. And, most important, show some pictures when you get done. Dan
  13. The temperature has finally gone up enough to tackle some outdoor projects. I plan to get back into the garage after work this week. I have a bunch of pens to make and a few scroll saw projects to work on. I hope to have a clock done in time for the chanllenge. Dan
  14. And another welcome from Kentucky. Dan

    cross

Love them both. I like the lettering you used for the cross. Dan
  16. Why do you ask such hard questions? I love all my tools equally. Today I guess it's the scroll saw. Dan
  17. Very original. I like it a lot. Yeah, what does it say? Dan
  18. Been there and yes it hurts! I've trimmed down many of fingernails on the belt sander, too. It usually happens when I'm doing lots of little pieces and get complacent. I hope you still have feeling in your fingers. Dan
  19. Great job Clayton!
  20. Steve, Don't forget your local library, if you have one close by. Ours has books and videos of all sorts of woodworking. Dan
  21. Welcome to The Village Paul. You'll find everything here to get started, and probably hooked, on scrolling. Dan
