  2. Welcome to The Village John. I know you'll find the answers you're looking for, unfortunately I don't own a Hawk. What kind d of cutting do you do...fretwork, puzzles?
  3. I use BLO/mineral spirit mixed 50/50. Can be handled in a day but takes a few more to cure. I also found that sanding to 220 grit before the finish provides a better sheen in the finished product.
  4. Cherry Sassafras Walnut
  5. (if I had 3 thumbs). Great pattern and cutting.
  6. Shellac,as stated above.

    Acorn and worm

Hehe. Thanks. I corrected my typo.

Backlit is a great idea. I'll have to look into that. Thanks!
  9. This is a Steve Good pattern. It was easy and fun to make. I think the 3/4" standoffs are too long. I'd suggest making them 1/2". The background is just 1/2" BB ply stained cherry. I painted the edge black.
  10. Fantastic! Possibly your best work yet.

    Bird House

I met Gerald several years ago then found out he lives 1/10th of a mile from me. We talked a few weeks ago and found out he has a hobby... he catches moles. I invited him over and he caught 3 moles in 4 days. Our yard has been mole-free for over 2 weeks now. I made him a Bluebird house to show my appreciation. It's Eastern red cedar.
  12. I was bored so I cut these for our park's educators. I plan on making many more as they are fun. Made of 3/4" poplar, cut with #3 and #5 pegas blades, and finished with 50/50 blo/ms.
  13. Nice! Reminders me of Old Man and The Sea.
  14. Awesome! Very good detail. I love the look of the tree.
  15. I have had that happen to me also. I found the I just missed a step. It helps to make a cheat sheet of the steps and keep it handy.
  16. I have had it happen but I'm not sure if grain direction (with or across) makes a difference. I us Ally sand all my boards first and that reduces the problem a lot.
  17. Definitely whatever speed you feel comfortable with. As you can tell by the posts there are many variables in the speed you choose, but ultimately it's your choice.
  18. Beautiful bowl. Great work.
  19. Wow! Another guy named Jerry posted the same thing. They say everyone has a twin. I think we found yours. Good work and great gesture.
  20. Wow! Someone's been busy. Great work.
  21. I use BLO/mineral spirit (50/50) on cedar. You can dip, wipe or brush it on. The first coat or two really soak in but additional coats will provide a nice, low luster finish.
  22. Welcome to The Village John. Use some scrap wood and drill a few different size holes. Then practice threading the blade in these holes. Find the smallest hole you are comfortable with and use that size drill bit. If the pattern is such that the area to cut is smaller than that drill bit you can either use a smaller bit and hope to get the blade threaded or alter the pattern to your liking. Either way patience and practice will get you there.
  23. Great work Marg!
  24. I love getting the mag in the mail. We all have different expectations based on abilities, desires, and project types. Most of the projects are things either too basic or not my type of project so I cut very little from the patterns. As long as I find a bit of inspiration or get ideas based on an article I'll keep my subscription. When I started scrolling the mag was a learning tool. As time went on I cut patterns just to see if it was something I'd be interested in doing. Then I found projects that I wouldn't made but I have made things based on an article. Now, my grandson is old enough to enjoy some of the basic patterns so I'll be making some of them. I agree that if you want something else in the magazine you should shoot them an email. I also see a lot of talent on this site but only a few have been in the magazine.
  25. Poplar seems to be the popular choice. I would also use poplar.
