  1. Not sure about for etsy, but do not believe so. I did learn that you must have permission from the Dept of Defense for the different military services if you make anything that shows a Branch Logo. Prices vary by branch. FYI, Marine Corp costs $25.00 per year, USAF is free but must apply, Army is $225.00 per year. These permits, licenses are for 1 year only and must be renewed.
  2. Not sure how to add pictures to this site. Contact me at [email protected] and I will attach a picture to you!
  3. Thick Gallery Glass does not completely dry to a brittle state. It remains rubbery. It does turn transluceint and allows light to illuminate it and it takes approx 72 hours to get into this state. You must ensure that your piece is clamped firmly on a wood backing covered with Saran Wrap as it will leak through the bottom and smear the bottom of the item. Overall, happy with results from this learning experience.
  4. Been 45 hours of drying and it is beginning to harden up and turn translucent. Online says to let dry for 72 hours. There is a lot of shrinkage.
  5. Using a zero tolerance cover around your blade will assist you in cutting small areas. I use a old playing card, drill a small hole and tape the card to the bench around the blade. This eliminates the large hole surrounding the blade and adds strength to the piece being cut. Practice with scrap to see if this will help you.
  6. I am attempting to use Gallery Glass to make sun catchers out of 1/8 plywood. Do you fill in the entire depth or just a covering? I filled the depth and have found out that the sun does not shine through the product. Also how long do I need to let it dry? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
  7. Not sure if they have what you are searching for but check with "the wooden teddy bear. com" they have an extensive selection of different patterns and are excellent to work with. I did a Wedding Plaque" for my niece and it turned out excellent. I used Red Oak that I purchased from Lowes or Home depot, not 100% sure which one. Used this hard wood to eliminate warping.
  8. One big thing I have learned is RELAX while cutting. Have encountered back problems and shoulder problem with tenseing up while cutting. Don't forget zero tolerance on close cuts.
  9. If you get 1 for the kids, go to "Saw4fun.com" many many free patterns that would be great for them to start with.
  10. Have had my Porter for about 4 months and love it. Blade change is great and easy to do with both pinned and pinless blades. Wish I had gotten this first.
  11. I always dip the ends of the blades in alcohol to get the excess grease off of them. Cuts down on slippage.
  12. Thanks, ordering new different blades tomorrow. Will keep you up on what happens. Using 3/4 Pine.
  13. Hate to say this but I am ignorant in the use of plain blades. Have always used spiral, even for fine line work. Will try 2/0 but was not sure about thick wood. Thanks guys, will keep you informed. I am using Pine for softness.
  14. I am making jig saw puzzels of animals. Notice that when I cut the piece lines that there is a lot of play between pieces. Can anyone recommend which blade to use to ensure a tighter fit? I use spiral blades for the cuts (size 5.) I would like very tight so when I sand, it leaves a little space for finishing.
  15. Have you tried "saw4fun" on the internet. Loads of free scroll saw patterns. Thought might give you an additional place to get ideas.
  16. I went online and researched the building of a bench for scroll saws. It was very good outcome. I then drilled through the bench where the holes on the base were and put threaded rods up through the bench and the saw base, secured with nuts above and below. By moving the nuts, I was able to get the right angle for sawing and looking straight at the lines. Try internet search.
  17. I'm not sure why people complain about spirals. I use them exclusively and after playing with the speed of the blade find they track perfectly. I enjoy them because I am not forced to change pattern direction as often as with a straight blade. Usually buy mine from Winfield Scroll Collections.
  18. I have started using four pieces of painters tape and surrounding the blade on all sides. This eliminates the wide holes on the table top and helps hold the edges of the wood from being pulled into the hole. Makes a world of differnce and is easy to take off the table when done.
  19. Has anyone tried using Solid Surface material for trivets. Getting both sides of use but not for hot items. Found a location to get as much material as I want for free.
  20. The local craft store should sell a foam board by the sheet. Try putting a foam board under the saw and then clamp the saw down. Should eliminate a bunch of vibration, mine did.
  21. Welcome to the strange world of craft fairs. You never know what people are looking for. Keep a good stock of all items and don't be afraid to take them with you.
  22. Not sure if there is one in your area. Check out Harbor Frieght. They carry a lot of tools at a lower price.
  23. Thanks for the info, guess I will try the Hobby License. Live in big retiree area.
  24. I just attempted to purchase the Marine Corp pattern to do military plaques. I was informed that this pattern is no longer for sale to the public. Has anyone else heard of this new policy and why only the Marine Corps?
