  1. My Hawk has a bolt on the left side and once the table is square to the blade you adjust the bolt up to be tight to the under side of the table.. then if you move it doing angle cuts you simply just move it back until it hits the bolt and it should be squared up again.. Mine has a piece of plastic / rubber cover other the threads of the bolt to protect it.. maybe to keep it from having baby bolts .. or would that be baby tables?
  2. I've never been super impressed with Bear Wood.. Yeah Bushton is on my list too, LOL Anyway, I ordered blades last year.... I also ordered blades from DND on the same day.. infact I also ordered blades from Mikes too.. same day.. It took Bear Woods 3 weeks to even mail out my order.. I had already had my order from DND and Mikes.. both orders came in the mail the same day 3 day later.. was 3.5 weeks for BW's .. I realize they are in Canada and I knew it'd take a little time to go through customs etc... but... three weeks just to get it packaged and on its way.. This wouldn't stop me from ordering again from them.. I just know that it takes them a long time to get orders out.. Much like Bushton.. I understand with Bushton because they're having issues... Never did hear why it took BW's so long to get my order in the mail.. I''ll order my stuff from DND or QTE before I would order from BW.. That's just my opinion... if you all have good experiences with BW.. by all means buy from them.. Not bad mouthing them.. just telling my experience.. Every business at some point and time has a issue from time to time.. How they handle it is how I decide to handle it next time.. LOL
  3. I buy mine from a local lumber store that I get most of my lumber and many tools from.. http://theworkbench.com/.. Don't think they do online orders or ship items.. but anyway they have two locations one here in Michigan and one in Indiana.. They're about 30-35 mile from me.. but I typically buy enough to last me a good 6-10 months..
  4. I'm hopeful that Pegas will set the standard and produce a premium quality saw that comes set up to run right out of the box.. If they have all their saws ready to cut right out of the box.. I think they could put a hurt on the " other like saws"..
  5. Always a good day when the new tools arrive.. Glad you like it so far.. Hopefully it'll be a great and enjoyable saw to use for you.. That style saw in my opinion is the only one to have for someone that does angle / bevel cuts.. they are awesome to work with doing those cuts with the table staying flat.. Hopefully Iggy (Scott) will have the same experience with his saw when it arrives..
  6. Yes, I use the Eclips ( I think it's called ) same one you bought but said it didn't fit.
  7. Well temps up to mid 30's and this is the first cutting I've done in a while.. in part, due to feeling blah from a sinus infection.. and another part.. I've been reworking my kitchen cabinets and doing some work inside the house.. I started out with the intention of video the whole cutting.. but.. my phone don't like the cold.. and died doing the first part of this cutting.. so then plug my phone in and then I ran out of storage memory on my phone.. LOL.. time to delete a lot of stuff I suppose.. Not sure you'll be able to get this since the upload in on Facebook on my business page.. you can find that searching FB for KevsKrafts... Maybe the link will work. Probably isn't going to be viewable to those that do not have Facebook.. Cutting is done on my Hawk 226VS Ultra Edit to say: I turn off my overhead light partway through the first part of cutting due to the light interfering with the camera..
  8. My brother gave me some Beach lumber a couple years ago for a big order I had of deer head mounts .... I thought the stuff cut nicer than Oak.. and like Dave said it's a closed grain wood.. also finishes pretty nice.. I find it's nicer to work with than Oak.. But.. I don't see it a lot in my area for sale..
  9. Appears to be a very early 220.. When you see these saws with the Red back C shaped section at the back of the saw... That's a early saw.. Most of these was either single speed or 3 speeds via changing belt to different pulleys. These also do not have the up front blade tension quick release.. I'm not sure if this style has the motor issues that the other older ones did because the other motor ones that had the issues was because of the VS controller.. so I don't think these have that issue.. My understanding is these did have weaker arms.. heard of cases of the arms bending.. Note the arm design.. it has hollowed out areas to lighten them up.. but they bend where the hollowed out areas are I believe..
  10. Not a golfer either.. You did a great job cutting.. and also recycling that old chair.. win win.. I also cut this pattern and have the products on my site.. make mine from 1/8 BBply and a walnut ply backer.. Sell a lot of these.. more than I expected..
  11. Have thought about milling some of this stuff down and selling boxes of 3/4" or less thick ( scroll saw friendly ) boxes similar to what Ooch Hardwoods does.. Don't think I'd want to get involved with specific orders of sizes etc.. but not too hard to put a bundle together and mail it out..
  12. The fence probably cost another $100 if you wanted the fence.. doesn't look like it'd saw more than maybe 6" resaw unless you got a riser block...
  13. I sure wish I could use this stuff now.. but it's still very green.. I stacked it up and stickered it to dry.. Probably be a long time before I can use it.. This is why I don't fool with getting this stuff from him very often.. many of the pieces are short 15" ish.. and it's hard to stack it up in a way to dry out without warping etc.. A lot of times getting these cut offs etc only get about half of it being worth using buy the time it dries out good enough to use.. and the space it takes up while it's drying.. I usually get a 4 x 4 foot pallet and stack the lumber on this layering it so it all can breath.. but it's hard to get enough of it to weigh enough to keep it from warping etc.. we'll see how this turns out in a few months.. if nothing else it's practice wood for the CNC and fire pit.. I have some ash and some spalted maple he gave me about 4 years ago that I just started using up a little bit of.. It cuts nice but I don't like doing fretwork with it as the light / dark spots of the stuff sort of hides the fretwork.. Thinking about making bowls and bandsaw boxes with it..
  14. Hard Maple doesn't scroll very easily though.. I might make cutting boards out of a lot of this.. Or practice using my CNC on some of it too.. . Most of the the cherry load I got will become clocks.. if scroll sawing it.. it'll all have to be resawed in half as they are thick pieces.. below is the pictures of one of the loads of cherry with just a few oak boards in there too.
  15. My brother owns a lumber mill business and called me last Friday to come dig what scraps I want out of the scrap bin and the guys were there doing grade lumber and they cut off ends and what not whatever is left goes into the wood stove unless I come get it. Last month I hauled about this much cherry and a little oak. He said they’ll be there again next week if I want more. I didn’t get time enough to get the other bin. But maybe swing back tomorrow to get the last bit. First picture is one of the 5 bins and the other is what I dug out of the bin. Some nice pieces of curly hard maple and I think there was a couple Birdseye.
  16. Mine isn’t from Seyco but is before they changed manufacturers.
  17. IF, one uses the flying Dutchman Ultra Reverse blades.. the simplest thing one can do is simply put the blade in upside down and use the other end.. you still get reverse teeth as they run throughout the length of the blade anyway.. It may cut slightly slower due to the fact the in the saw the correct way i believe they have two teeth down and one up.. reversing it will give you two up one down, LOL.. but.. sharp teeth.. Like the others.. I simply toss a blade out as they are pretty cheep when buying bulk.. I might not do this if I was buying at $8 a dozen from the hardware store though... Makes a big difference in price.. and many many people do not know about gross buying..
  18. First in Late Jan. I called and got on the phone with some other lady and she didn't seem to know how to explain very well what was going on.. she just said something broke and they was trying to repair it.. It wasn't clear if the scroll saw broke or something of theirs LOL.. I tried my best to get more info but honestly don't think she knew what it was.. Then I called again in mid Feb. and got Nicole on the phone.. she explained that the CNC machine had a broken part.. Never said what the part was broke but the more we talked I gathered it was a electronic controller? which I doubt another machine shop can make..She said they ordered the part but it was on back order for 3-5 weeks.. but said the good news was that they had received a tracking number and UPS website showed it was at their local UPS.. so she thought it would come that day..Said they had the CNC in a million pieces scattered all about the shop.. and also said everyone's saws are put together as far as they can go with them until the CNC is repaired and can start making the parts for them.. She mentioned all these saws some being in here office etc and they have no room anywhere to move.. Think she also said something about some saws at their house LOL.. all waiting on this one last part.. She also mentioned that they tried contacting the local machine shops to see about outsourcing and getting the part made from them but they was booked out until mid March.. she did get on the wait list just in case.. My last call the other day was... The good news is the part came in and they put the machine back together.. they just fired it up and they all jumped for joy as they are all stressed and worried about this.. I said me too LOL.. but.. she said more bad news.. The coolant or oil isn't pumping and they can't run the machine until they get that fixed.. she said they was all out in the shop working on that machine trying to diagnose why it's not pumping .. She said worst case is the local machine shop should be calling any time to make their part so they can at least get these 18 saws they have waiting for the part shipped out.. Sounded to me like they was having the local machine shop make a run of these parts whether their machine is running or not.. they set it up to have them make a run of the parts..
  19. Hope you're not using used toilet wax rings... Stay away from that scrap-pile
  20. JT, My thoughts exactly... however I've been trying to stay neutral about my thoughts of the company and just post my experiences as they progress and let others decide what they think.. I don't really want to influence one side or the other.. just putting out there what's happening.. others can decide what they want.. I've been waiting it out more out of curiosity of what the outcome of it will be.. I ain't worried about the money either.. that stuff grows on trees around here anyway and I have jars of it buried under the foot of snow in my driveway.. anybody that wants a jar? just bring your shovel..
  21. I did some bevel cutting years ago on my DeWalt.. even just a few degrees I didn't like doing it.. I've also recently tried bevel cutting on my Excalibur.. IF I were to do much bevel cutting.. I wouldn't be without a Excalibur... Not just because of the tilting head.. but the mechanism to do the angles is very simple and easy to get a angle spot on with the gear drive deal... I've heard that the Seyco saw is lacking the gear mechanism.. and is a pain in the neck to adjust compared to the gear mechanisms the Ex saws have.. I don't know how this setup is on the new Hawks.. But I cannot stand the tilting mechanism on either of my current Hawks.. the design is pretty crappy.. the table doesn't move freely so you bump it and it either goes too far or not far enough.. real clumsy setup to try to get that perfect angle .. and the knob to adjust it doesn't like to tighten down good on the table to hold it well.. I actually do not and would not move my table once it's set... I like to take care of my equipment.. so when i wax the table I don't stop there.. I wax the whole saw including the stands.. I often wondered if this is why it's hard to get the table to stay once it's set.. you don't dare bump or put too much pressure on one side or the other or it'll move the table out of whack.. I fixed mine by roughing up the washer between the knob and the mechanism so it holds pretty well now.. but I'm never moving it again on these saws, LOL
  22. Thanks for bringing that up.. I had forgot about Dave going to tour the plant..
  23. And that is supposed to mean what? Some sort of jab at me? I'm not sure where you're going with that statement but I find it quite rude.. Not to offend anyone here and especially Iggy.. but for someone that admits to not being mechanically inclined or knows how to tune a saw.. How much credibility is his experience really? Or because he bought during harvesting and it took 5 weeks for him to get his saw.. I expected it could be a while to get my saw because of Iggys experience.... so what.. I wasn't in a hurry and am still not.. i have two good working Hawks in the shop right now.. If I remember correctly.. in that 5 week time frame it took to get his saw.. it seems he called several times.. in a hurry to get his saw.. rush a mechanic and have the chance of a wheel falling off.. So he got a bad saw.. was it because they was trying to rush his saw out the door? Either way they sent him a bad saw and shouldn't have whether he was rushing them or not.. I get it.. How many people bad mouth DeWalts? yet people buying new ones every day.. People rave over the Excalibur saws... but my experience with mine was less than satisfactory.. issues with blade chucks.. bad vibration issues.. and now I tune it and it un-tunes itself.. sure easy fixes and I've worked them out.. but would someone not mechanically inclined be able to or would they have trash talked the saw and make others not buy them.. I might be the only one to complain about the Excalibur saws.. But I've only seen one bad review on the Hawks too.. and that was from a person not really mechanically inclined.. I like my other two Hawk saws.. so I ordered another.. I have no doubt my saw will come in time.. I also am proud to have bought a USA made saw.. and proud to support my fellow american company.. Do I think Bushton could use some better business practices.. yes.. but I also think most business's could.. DeWalt could grease their saws before sending them out... Excalibur could put a jam nut on the rear knob adjuster and make a quality clamp.. Especially on the Excalibur where it's only a couple hundred dollars cheaper than a Hawk.. Both could use a real person to answer the phone when contacting them about parts or service.. The point is they all have some flaw and only hearing 1 bad review on a saw isn't stopping me from buying a saw brand I like.. Maybe after I get it I won't like this one.. certainly a chance I am taking..But isn't buying any brand of saw taking a chance?
  24. If I understood correctly is was a electronic part that was malfunctioning on their CNC..
  25. Jim, I was told way back when that all the saws are built other than waiting on the one part that’s needed to finish them. She said they have saws scattered throughout her office and hardly room to move. So I think once the machine is up and running or the outsourced company can make the part it’ll be pretty quick to get all 18 of them out the door.
