  1. Welcome to the SSV family Robert. I am in Matthews N.C. not to far from you.Nice to have someone close to home. eagledrum70
  2. I just wanted to share this with everybody. Maybe some of you have tried it already . I cut my pictures with regular 2/0 scrollsaw blades , I have never really used spiral blades. I have always liked really getting into my cutting , but I have been looking for ways to make it a little bit easier on me. I have been doing some looking around and discovered these rubber fingertips that are used for fingering through documents or mail etc. They work really well . They grip pretty good with the paper pattern on the wood. Even with some dust on the wood they work pretty good.I put them on my index finger and middle finger of both hands and it allows me to hold down with literally one finger and spin the wood with one finger. I usually use both fingers to spin the wood . They come in different sizes , so you can get them to fit all fingers if you want . They can be bought online or at most office supply stores. One is called Swingline Rubber Finger Tips and most office supply stores have generic brands that work just as good. Swingline website is http://www.accobrands.com or just google rubber finger tips. Hope this is useful to some of you scrollers out there . Thanks Eagledrum70
  3. Thanks Jim I appreciate it . Eagledrum70
  4. Very nice work Mike congratulations.
  5. Thanks Mike and I think Travis posted their is a problem with the pattern library. I uploaded a couple of my patterns 2 days ago and they haven't went through yet.
  6. Great work Mike , I would like to make one of those to put my woodworking magazines in. Could you possibly post the actual pattern plans for me. Eagledrum70
  7. Thank you Brett . You really should try to advertise your work more because you do some great work.
  8. Congrats on the pinewood derby Mike. me and my son recently came in fourth in our pinewood derby races for our first time not to bad , but most important thing we had a good time. I would recommend band saw that is what we used on ours. Eagledrum70
  9. That is good information John I will keep that in mind . For me I make my own frames , so I have to get my glass cut. Thanks Eagledrum70
  10. Try PosteRazor it is free to download and easy to use. Go to the the forum and look under Pattern Making Travis put a post about it a long with a link to down load it. There is also a video to show you how it works in the post . it is very simple and I like it better than rapid resizer. Good luck and hope this helps , Eagledrum70
  11. I always have just to keep the dust from getting down in the black areas, also it looks better. I started out using plexiglass better known as plastic or acrylic. I thought this was a cheaper way to go, but it was not . I started using regular glass that you can get cut at most hardware stores . I get mine at Lowes Home Improvements. You can get glass and get it cut for around 2 dollars depending on size and it looks professional. Eagledrum70
  12. My business cards have a dark wood background with my Eagle picture I did on the left side which is a lite cedar frame with the lite baltic birch plywood the picture was cut out of. The contrast of the dark background and light colors of picture look great. Its a thought . Maybe you have a good picture that stands out and would make a good company logo . That is what I went with simply because I mainly do pictures . This may work for you or it may not just throwing the idea out there.
  13. That's ok Marg . That is what I like about this site you get honest opinions . If everybody's opinion was the same life would not be near as interesting !
  14. Thanks Tony , yeah Facebook is a great way to show your work. Soon as I get my website up and running I am going to link it to my facebook.
  15. Thanks for replies everyone it does make things a little more clearer for me . Eagledrum70
  16. Thanks Andrew and Chris for your input I really appreciate . Thanks for comments on pictures also . One question , do you guys charge a hourly rate when figuring price and if so how much do yall charge roughly ? I understand if you don't want to say exactly how much. Thanks Eagledrum70
  17. The only stores I have dealt with so far are Dog boarding and training centers . All I am doing with them is making a couple of pictures of what they tell is the most popular breeds that come to the establishment . I put business cards with a portfolio of patterns and pictures that I made the pattern from with the pictures. Most of my business I hope will be custom orders from people wanting their own dog done . I do have a order sheet that I came up with , but like I said I hope most of mine will be custom orders . In that situation like I did at the dog show I went to recently I had the order form which has your basic info needed. Most important I ask for money in advance or at least get a percentage of it to cover materials. If they want to write a check I make sure it cashes before I do any work. When I get my website completed it will have paypal linked to it so I will have my money in hand before doing any work. So I haven't really had the need for contracts as of yet , but that is a thought.I am having a problem with pricing . I posted a picture in bragging rights under Golden Retriever check it out any advice would be appreciated.eagledrum70
  18. I think Messman's Creative Woodwork's instead of Woodworking sounds good . That's just my opinion. I fought with naming my business G & K Woodworking or G & K Woodwork's . I decided on G & K Woodwork's because I thought it had a better ring to it . I think Messman's Creative Woodwork's has a good ring to it. Eagledrum70. PS I could use your help on pricing Pictures . I posted a Golden Retriever pattern I cut out in bragging rights read what I wrote and let me know what you think any help or advice would be appreciated.
  19. I finished the Golden Retriever pattern I made , but I need some advice . I was wanting to know if some of you could help me out with pricing these pictures. I have had friends here tell me I am not charging enough for my work. So I was wanting some advice or or any input would be greatly appreciated. Should I charge more for pictures that have a lot more detail in them or what. Charge more depending on size , I am kind of lost. I charge 55 dollars for a 8 by 10 picture that is including frame which I make also. I do 12 by 12 and 11 by 14 in. pictures also. I charge 65 for the 12 by 12 and 80 dollars for the 11 by 14. Please any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I put the one German Shepherd picture I did with the Golden Retriever to compare the two. The German Shepherd took about 2 1/2 hours to cut and the Golden Retriever took 5 hours to cut. Thanks in advance for any help the SSV family can give. Eagledrum70
