  1. Following Kevins idea here are a few clocks completed today. Trying some other woods in the process. All the items shown are Poplar except tried one with Cypress.
  2. Those are great. I also like the Mt Rushmore.
  3. I started making these for apprentice lineworkers once they completed their training (4 years) and became journey level lineworkers. I retired back in September and didn't wnat to leave out apprentices that I hired and started their training while I was still there. I plan on still making them as workers complete their training. May not be able to give in person but hope they like them.
  4. Thanks all. First time I tried the sprials did not like them but took some time with them and kind of like them for the application here. I picked up a good selection of the Pegus Sprials from Dennis and will continue to use them. I have made other plaques using the straight blades but will switch to the sprials for those. Yes the more you practice the better. Have to get better following the pattern but with the type patterns I going to use the sprials on there is some forgiveness. Working on another project but will post when framed. Already started cutting another in the Americana series.
  5. Needed a break from cutting puzzles and with icing conditions outside decided to cut another Americana Series from Jim Blume. I cut #1 yesturday. I had cut #2 last week. First time using sprial blades. Thanks Jim Blume for great patterns. Going to do more of the series. I have #12 ready to start on. Now to make frames.
  6. Thanks everyone. I hear alot about the Hawks so I was not sure what to look for. As others mentioned, not sure why the seller didn't clean it up but I think that shows how it was maintained. THere could be other reasons as well. Just wanted to see if the price was in the ball park.
  7. These are the pictures from the post.
  8. I see a used RBI Hawk for sale. Asking 400. From the pictures does not seem to be maintained and well used. I don't know that much about them and wonder if this is a good deal. What should be looked at? I have an Excalibur, not the new ones, that I got from Sayco and like it. Thanks
  9. Jim, These are great patterns and some great cutting by everyone. I have been opening the patterns as PDF and then printing in poster. Then taping the pieces together. You mentioned guide marks. How do you get these? Is there a better way to use smaller paper to get the bigger prints? Is everyone using sprial blades when cutting these? Thanks
  10. A few months ago we retired to South Carolina from Vermont. Nice to be able to open the garage door and enjoy the sunshine in December. Even in the morning it's warm enough to be in the garage with the door shut to cut until it warms up. Have everyone in the neighborhood stopping by to see what I'm doing.
  11. Ended up sanding before cutting and addimg a backer when cutting. Ended up looking good. Thanks all for suggestions.
  12. Thanks everyone for the ideas. Will see what happens with the next ones I cut.
  13. I have not cut may ornaments but had a request for several this year. When peeling the pattern off I often loose some of the top layer of the 1/8" baltic birch plywood. Have cut a ton of items with 1/4" with out issues. Seems with the more detail I loose some of the top layer. I use shelf paper to glue the patterns too. Usually have no issues removing the paper. Anyway to prevent?
  14. I took this picture and Russell (Birchbark) made a pattern for me. The wood is Cedar from an old pole that we recently transferred.
