  1. Another great job.
  2. Looks great.
  3. Well done and very thoughtful.
  4. I made the pattern in inkscape using the logo and making it similar to the other military plaques with the outside and lettering.
  5. Another to the Military set.
  6. I was in the Air Force also and first stationed at Moody AFB in GA. One great things about military life is that the friendships started while serving last forever. These are going to a post is our great friends in GA. We first met while stationed at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls TX. We have maintained contact for a long time. Now we live relatively close and have visited several times already. I attend several craft shows during the year selling mainly wooden animal puzzles like Scott has shared. I cut roughly a dozen military puzzles, USAF, USMC, ARMY, NAVY and give those away. I look for folks with military hats or shirts and walk up to them and give them a puzzle. It's amazing the responses I get.
  7. Thanks all. Just got a pattern with the American Legion logo. Going to cut that one as well. They don't know about that one. Will post when complete.
  8. Just finished these. Going in an American Legion Post.
  9. Looks great.
  10. Not a good picture. Not happy with results. Tried Natural stain and clear coat. I have stained pine before and didn't even think of the sanding sealer until after I started. Just not the finish I was after. I liked using this blank but will have to try a different finish.
  11. This was my first time cutting Basswood and it cut real easy. I used both MFG and spiral blades. It was cut mostly with the spiral blades as I have been using them more when cutting some of Jim Blume's Americana series. I had to spend time getting the fine sawdust from all the tight cuts. Had to use the air compressor and old blades to get it out.
  12. Frank, Thanks for the ideas.
  13. Retired last year after 41 years in the industry with well over half working on the lines, in the air and underground. Started working with the scroll saw as a stress relief and now my retirement fun. I have made numerous plagues using this design for folks retiring and those that have completed their apprenticeship and are just starting their journey working the lines. I think I'll experiment a little on the back side to see what I like. Thinking a light stain may help or a natural stain to give a little tint.
  14. I just finished cutting this on a Basswood blank. I have never tried a blank and thought this would be a good cut. I have done this pattern on numerous plagues for lineworkers. How have other finished basswood blanks? Thought was just to spray with clear but thought it needed a little tint to it.
  15. Thanks John.
  16. John, these are great. For reference, how tall the the cat rocker? Thanks
  17. Thanks Barb, That is what I was looking for.
  18. Looking for a pattern for a small elephant in a rocking chair. Also a cat. anyone know where these are available?
  19. Looks great.
  20. Looks great. Good job cutting and framing.
  21. Looks good. I've got another Gnome from Steve Good that I will give this year.
  22. Just finished the Hummingbird clock. Wood is Cherry. Better half likes it.
  23. I think the Hummingbird is looking good in Cherry. Will post a picture when done. Doing a couple others in Cherry. I like the various colors in Poplar for certain items. I think some of the puzzles look really good with the variations. But it also can take away from an item.
  24. GoGolf is already gone as a neighbor stop in to see what I was doing and liked it. Looking at the Happy Camper. Any preference to the type wood and grain? Poplar can be funny as you may not know what the grain will look like. I've had darker go real dark and some not so dark. I like what the grain does as sometimes it's a surprise. Other woods like the cypress you can somewhat predict what it will do. I am gutting a Hummingbird in Cherry for the boss of the house. Thanks all.
  25. I used a 2" insert that I got from Kevin. Have also got some from Wooden Teddy Bear. Have more on the saw.
