    Unfortunate, and I'm sad to hear of your limited mobility Randy. Don't know much about the Delta scroll saws but I'm sure for light duty it'll satisfy your needs.

    This saw probably goes back 17 years. I have the 30" that I purchased in 2000 and runs like new today. Very well built and I'm sure it'll out live me. A real precision made machine. Difinitely worth checking out and giving it a test run. After checking it out thoroughly and you find no major issues and it looks like it hasn't been beaten up I would offer him no more than $200.00 because of it's age starting with an offer of $150.00. if I recall correctly this saw new sold for around $900.00. I'm always on the lookout for another the same. Interesting how you make out. Like to add that there are a lot of these saws still in use today and you could easily more than double the asking price just parting out. The motor itself is one of the best motors available and very expensive to replace (made in U.S.A.). Replacing the table with a new one was approximately $400.00 two years ago. The stand is worth at least $75.00 and it goes on.

    Fifteen years ago there were still a few quality entry level scroll saws available in the $200.00 and less price range. Today, quality has gone by the wayside. And if you want quality today expect to pay the price. Good quality tools are higher priced, but then they'll last longer with some lasting a lifetime, more enjoyable to work with, less breakdowns and etc. This can be applied to power and especially to hand tools. it's sad so many great companies and manufacturers have been forced to go cheap and many forced to close. Could it be many engineers are in the same situation. After all it's a DOG EAT DOG WORLD in order to survive.

    I think â…›" is the largest available Doc, although I could be wrong. For a larger round over profile I would go to a regular router.

    Using a hardwood will be much stronger than BB Bob. For a special event as this my preference would be a hardwood as Scrappie indicated. It'll difinitely be a keepsake item. As an example I've attached a memory box I had completed awhile ago. It measures 5 x 8 x 2 ½. Your's of course will be larger and I'm just in the process of completing another one similar to size you have in mind. Also I would come up with your own design. It'll be more personal and so much more meaningful. Just my two cents worth. Wishing you the best with your final decision.

    I can understand your friend getting chocked up receiving such a beautiful and meaningful gift. I also understand Tom this is a cherished item. Well done. The most cherished scroll saw item is of my friend who passed away in 2015. She was with me for 15 years. I've attached a couple other items. Made two of the rocking horse for my grandchildren which I really enjoyed doing.
