  1. Thank you, just pluggin' along. Al B.
  2. MOONLIGHT DRIVE: I thought I'd get myself a new set of wheels, so I went into my shop and fired up my scrollsaw (after making the pattern) and came up with this little doozy of a vehicle. Sure I can't drive it around (but where am I going to go during this pandemic anyway), but I can dream. Free pattern of this vehicle.
  3. I find light pictures and plaques should be ok. Don't plan on hanging by your hands on it.
  4. Sawtooth Hanger Compound Cut Project Pattern You can go out and buy those metal sawtooth hangers when you have a picture or plaque to hang, but it is just as easy to make your own out of what you cut best -- wood. Download this Free pattern and project VIDEO here: http://baggetta.com/pebooks/FreePatternPage3.htm
  5. If this puzzle looks a little bit odd, it's because it is. I call it a surface puzzle because the actual puzzle floats on the top of a backboard surface and locks into place by special pins at strategic points. So a flat puzzle with no real locking pieces can become a meaty stand up puzzle. See how to video and Download Here.
  6. If you have been following my patterns for the scroll saw, you have probably noticed a common theme: Old. Yes, I'm old and love a lot of the things from the past, so you will probably have to put up with a lot of "old" patterns. Find out more and download free pattern.
  7. Here's a little sign that might brighten up your day and your garden this summer. Free pattern
  8. Might be a good place for it.
  9. Thanks you for the comments and I like the colors of your wands. They really vibrate.
  10. Here's a fun historic project you might like working on. It is an ornamental old fashioned tavern sign with a 1776 label at the bottom. You might have seen a sign like this had ou been traveling on horseback through the country side in the old colonial days. Also included a video of the put together process. 11. Current Issue of Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts Thought I'd let everyone know that the new issue of "Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts" is now (or will be soon) available on the newsstand. Lots of nice projects in it and they have also included one of mine on making wizard wands on the scroll saw, using the compound cutting technique. I came up with the idea after working on compound cut of different varieties, and was wondering if I could cut something nice and long. What better than a Wizard's Wand (can also be used as a pointer or conductor's baton). Well you can check out the article in the Fall issue #80 if you like. I'm also offering a special eBook of 16 wand patterns, in case you get the wand cutting bug. It is available for $3.50 in my Etsy store. https://www.etsy.com/listing/822012980/magic-wand-compound-cut-scroll-saw?ref=shop_home_active_1

  13. Well, here's a nice wood sign you can cut to help celebrate Independence Day with out the fireworks.
  14. Well this gong won't ring out and it is decorated to be a table ornament. I cut mine from a couple of different woods. The frame was cut from alder and stained lightly. The gong itself is cut from spalted maple. The base if plain ol' pine painted a deep red. I also put a backer on the gong and painted it the same color as the base, giving the whole project the feel of the ancient past. I used some of that copper wire that is wrapped around those scroll saw blades when you buy a pack. Makes a nice invisible hanger. Makes a nice decoration for those into art of the orient. Download
  15. Yes. I guess this could be for us oldsters as well.
  16. Daily Flower Clock Pattern This is a project I designed with young children in mind. It might prove helpful in orienting youngsters to the days of the week, use of abbreviations, and consistency and regimentation. This might also be fun to place on the breakfast table and each day the young children can put the proper day title in the flower frame. Each insert is an abbreviation for the day of the week and has a little creature attached to it. Free Pattern
  17. In tune with the times here's another 2020 sign that can be used as a reminder that we should all keep our distance, at least for the time being. Download free pattern
  18. Here's a sign for a singer you might know. Download
  19. That's a lot of fine detail cutting. Nice job.
  20. If you find your self a bit board you might want to try this little fun puzzle I've created for you. First, use the pattern to cut out these individual race car puzzles from 1/4" birch ply or some other scrap wood you have lying around. Then mix up all the piece in a coffee can. You can now use this as a competition with a friend to see who can build a race car the fastest. In the process you can trade (or nastily withhold) pieces your opponent might need to finish. Or you can play by yourself to see if you can put the two cars together in record time. Use your imagination and have fun. Download free pattern.
  21. This pattern is part of my Western theme cuttings. Nothing like a beautiful horse in full gait. I submit to you one famous horse called Cochise, owned by none other than Little Joe. You remember him from the popular show Bonanza. If you recall the horse he was a sturdy paint with white spots. I did two versions of this art piece. One of them has the spots of the horse raised in the wood. The wood is stained a dark color and the spots left in the original color. The other piece has the spots removed from the body and open air shows behind the running steed. I also used the base slightly modified so that it hints at the silhouette of the horse. Makes for an interesting piece. Download from Free Page
  22. Thank you all. Al B.
  23. This is not a real genie lamp, so don't expect one to pop out and grant you all your wishes. But it is fun to cut on your scroll saw. Seems like compound cuts have been among the most popular of my patterns, so let's try this one. This gives you a rather small lamp. You could extend the length of the spout if you like. This will be cut from the standard size block (see the pattern). I used pine cut from a 2 x 4 and then painted it black. A nicer would will give you a nicer trinket. Enjoy. Download Free Pattern
