  1. Thanks as far as making the designs not going to happen have tried, but as far as if or when I get the patterns I will for sure show progress.
  2. I have his pattern and others. I've tried to make designs already and well....NOPE! not going to happen. I've gotten some responses from being posted in other groups but nothing yet to the point that someone is going to make the patterns yet. I can design patterns just not compound cuts for one I don't do too many of them even cutting, just started out about a month ago with making compound christmas ornaments and a couple of chess sets. Thanks though!
  3. Ok I've got an idea for a design but have no idea how to design it. It's a compound cut design. The idea is coming up with a Military Chess Set. I would really like to have the USMC as at least part of the design. It would be great to have different sets based on the different branches. I know some pattern makers know how to make compound designs so I'm posting this to see if one of those might know how to make this idea. If there is one and can design these, I would be willing to pay for the patterns. Hopefully this idea can be done..... Thanks!
  4. From what I've read on the web. They bought the company that made the EX and that company will be making these. If that's the case I would think they are going to be made of the same quality and such as the Ex was. My thinking anyways. We will see. If King is like most brands. They pay others to make their things and they just put their name on it and if that's the case it don't have necessary the brand that's bad just the company that made that particular tool. Take HF for example, from experience their cheaper tools are crap but take the commercial line they offer and the higher priced tools, they aren't bad like everyone makes them out to be. I know I have a shop full of them and even have the extended warranties on most just in case but on most the warranty has expired a while ago and still going strong with no problems. Now I'll have to admit they aren't like the higher priced brands as the adjustments and weight of these aren't as easy and as light as say Dewalt or others. Heck I even have somewhere in a box their $90 scroll saw and I used it for 3yrs and only reason I quit and boxed it up was because at that time they didn't have the adapters to go pinless and the way to use pinless blades that came with the saw well that's a cluster. It was going strong and imagine if I got it back out of the attic and unpacked it it would still go good. Just don't need it and don't want to invest in the adapters that are available online somewhere for it. So, the brand King won't scare me away by your experience with them. I was suppose to be able to demo one at the woodcraft store I frequent but, they are gone now because of the tornado that hit Tulsa a little while back and haven't went to the OKC one enough yet to get to know them. 3 hours is a little far to just go a lot compared to 1 to 1 1/2 hours to get to Tulsa. I'm doing a lot of online ordering from them now until I need more ply then I'll make the trip to OKC if they aren't open somewhere closer yet. The store in Tulsa building had to be demolished and they are still dealing with insurance and other things to know when or where they'll open back up but have promised they will be back within the area of Tulsa at least. I know Charles Hand stands by them he said he has 2 I believe but he got his through a Canadian distributor or King themselves as he is in Canada I believe I'm correct on that. He's the one that told me about the saw once I read where woodcraft was going to carry them now making them available in the US without have a large shipping and import charge. If I'm correct with him having 2 I trust his opinion to the point that he wouldn't steer you wrong. Or hasn't me yet.
  5. I don't know about the saw but like you say they are likely good. As for the customer service question. I would say the customer service is good as it's Woodcraft. I've dealt with Woodcraft for a long time. I just recently have had to do online ordering and phone ordering and question asking as the store that I use to use was destroyed in the Tornado that hit Tulsa, Oklahoma not to long ago. The shopping center it was in was wiped out and will have to be demolished. In the meantime the next closest one is in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma which is around 3 hours drive where the one in Tulsa was around 1 hour or so. I will make the trip for ply but not for things that are easily shipped. So far, so good on customer service as I've called them seems like once everyday or at least every other day. I got so use to just taking the drive when to get things and ask questions in person but not now and probably be that way for a while according to the Tulsa store's Facebook, they are looking at their options and locations available but will be back in Tulsa or in the area as soon as they can. Anyways, every question I have had no matter how stupid it was, they've answered them and gave me all the information I would ask for about things. Now I'm not sure what the other stores service will be like but would think they are pretty much the same as the OKC store and the Tulsa one was. I am just wishing and hoping they may end up having a damage sale on the tools they had in the Tulsa store. I've asked the OKC store about it but they can't answer that either way as right now they are still dealing with insurance. Anyways, hope this answers your questions. I'm looking to get one of the 30" saws soon. Would've gotten one by now but have had other things come up that have higher priority so the extra saw is on hold for a while. Plus I'm really looking to get a smaller saw to take to shows with me as right now I have an EX-21 and EX-30 and those are a little bulky to haul around but, may just use the 21" as my show saw and get another 30" for the shop. My shop is a two person shop as my wife helps in the shop and also works on her own projects so have to keep 2 saws in the shop able to be used.
  6. I have 2 EX already. 21 & 30 and only looking to get a 16" to take to shows/fairs with me. I was looking at the dewalt but have went away from that because of the things I've been reading and mainly because it don't have a stay up arm without buying the lift support. To be honest, no more than it would be used I'm seriously thinking about a Craftsman or Porter Cable because of price. I started out with a Craftsman back in 2009 and then went with a Porter Cable in 2012 and just recently we to the EX saws last year. So I am comfortable with them as far as how good they are. I do understand they wouldn't last as a production saw however, they would only be used at shows/fairs and some of them it wouldn't be used at all just there to show what I use to make projects. I already have a video of me making projects that I show on a flat screen hooked to my computer and a few photos of me cutting. Just have been thinking about getting a saw to have on hand also. My Ex's are bolted to tables in the shop plus they would be a little heavy and take up space if I took one of them. As far as these saws. I've talked to folks that live in Canada where they've been for sale for a while and they use them saws and stand by as them being good saws. I haven't checked into these saws just yet as the Woodcraft store I use hasn't gotten one for me to check out yet. They've told me they would contact me when they get them and allow me to check them out and use them a little as long as I would allow them to get a review for them to use. Of course I'm all for that.
  7. These are made by the same company that made the Excalibur saws. So these are the exact same saws just with different stickers and name. The reason I believe they didn't include a 21" is because the Jet scroll saw is a 21" and are made by the same company. I believe I read that somewhere, not for sure though.
  8. No they don't have a 21. Only the 16 and 30 now I wish I would've known this was going to happen. I knew last year Excalibur was going to be no more and bought a 21 and 30 but o well I'm happy with them. May end up ordering the 16 king for a show saw (one taken to shows) the 2 I have now are heavy to be loading and unloading...lol! I have to go to Woodcraft in Tulsa Oklahoma this weekend for ply and some carving chisels and knives. I will be asking about it and shipping and if it ships to the store and such as they show not available in store but says "ships today" so I'm hoping it'll ship to store for free like the other things do when you order. If it goes good I will be ordering one.
  9. Here is something I just found. Apparently Woodcraft is going to carry the King saws. Here's the link: https://www.woodcraft.com/products/king-industrial-30-inch-scroll-saw-with-foot-switch#ShipsToday https://www.woodcraft.com/products/king-industrial-16-inch-scroll-saw
  10. I use spirals almost 100% of the time and don't spin the material but do always try and work counter clockwise for the reason of I'm right handed and seem to like having my right hand closer to where it's cutting. When using the bandsaw just to add here, I always cut counterclockwise also.
  11. I just checked home depot don't have it but Lowes does and being that it is on the aisle and bay you mentioned I am thinking you meant Lowes which is awesome considering I have a pro account there. Thanks for the info on it. I have the plunge router and press station and 4 dremels use the press and have the shaft and use it more than anything for drilling and fine sanding along with engraving and carving so this will work great on one of them that isn't attached to anything else unless it will attach to the shaft but don't know if it will and if it does wonder if it will cause it to be end heavy. Anyways, thanks again I will figure it out and use it a lot I'm sure.
  12. Could you maybe post the link to the 3-jaw chuck? Thanks!
  13. I ended up setting my table at 29 inches and I'm a flat table guy. I have tried the lower in the front option and well didn't like it projects slide on me so flat it is. Funny thing is that it's the same height as I had on the previous table just that the legs are further apart so I can roll up under it more. Seems that was the main problem I couldn't get close enough to the saw for comfort and was causing my pain in the back. Now for the little time I've tested seems to work. Thanks again for all the input.
  14. yea that's about close to what I'll be making my table. I'm making it at 34" or so, that's where I'm starting anyways but building in adjustments to raise it if I will be standing. Now just to design that part. Have an Idea but not sure it'll work. Going to try it on smaller scale first.
  15. Thanks for the input. I've finally found the dimensions online for what I was wanting. Thanks again..
  16. I am asking because I use to have a stand but don't have it anymore and had it at full height. That is why I'm asking. I can't find the sizes online.
  17. Have a question for EX owners that have the stand but guess any saw stand would work also. What is the height of your stands? I don't have the stand and am going to be building me another stand/table for my saws where I can have both my saws on one table but want to change the height compared to the one I have now. Thanks. Posted on other groups also.
  18. You can also get a digital clock that plugs up and has a battery back up and plug it into your foot-switch. I reset it when I start a project and everytime I have the switch on cutting it runs the clock and with the battery back up it won't reset on it's on. I start it at 12:00am and then just figure the time when I'm finished. I use this to help figure out time involved on a project to figure price. This idea was told by someone else and I tried it thinking if it didn't work I would then buy a meter or something but it works great and the digital clocks aren't that expensive, cheaper than the meters. Another idea for everyone, especially for ones that are on a tight budget or trying to pinch pennies.
  19. Yes when facing your saw like your cutting look on the left side at the back there is a bolt with a flat head adjust screw in it. You can also adjust the bolts on each side that hold the upper arm to the machine. I took the adjustment screw out of mine and just use the 2 bolts. Which ever one you choose be careful not to over tighten or losen as it'll cause breakage.
  20. I have this book also, and yes I've cut a few of them. You follow the same way as you would other compound cutting. And yes these are made where you look one way and it's one thing and you look at the other side and it's a new thing. If you try and make your own patterns with this style, you have to make sure that each thing you use won't interfere with the other. I've tried to make patterns like these and once I cut them, they didn't work out right as one design would make the other one look weird. They would match right. I wish someone with a little more experience with this style of compound cutting and pattern making might do a tutor on making compound patterns like this. As far as the patterns in this book they seem to be fairly easy to cut or at least the ones I've cut.
  21. I wish all the other pattern designers would slow the heck down on making so many great patterns. I'm still trying to go through all the ones I got when I bought someone out last year and now every day another great pattern gets added to my pattern library from you all. Plus the designs I'm making. I will never get through them all. No actually thanks to all you designers that are still putting patterns out (free and pay) for us scrollers. With most everyone going to laser and cnc and now even 3d manufacturing. It's still not slowing down on awesome scroll saw patterns. Thanks again.
  22. These are copyrighted and yes there are people selling them and unless they have the license to do so they are doing it illegally. That being said, if you make them to give away without charging then I believe you would be ok. You could sale them but you are doing it at a risk just like the ones doing it without a license. I know that the ncaa is strict on this but not sure about the others. The license is expensive too. For ncaa it ranges from $2000 and up per school. Now I know you can make something similar without using the logo or image and that isn't infringement. Hope this explains it for you. A rule of thought that I use is this: if it's used for something comercially or is used by another source it's probably copyrighted. Also most logos have the "R" in a circle or has the copyright on them them are defintly copyrighted and to sale them you have to get permission from the owners (nfl and team) or buy a license to do it.
  23. It's being taken care of Lucky2. Thanks to someone posting on one of the fourms a while back how to hide your name or things into the pattern that won't be seen unless you know it's there and brought to attention. I've been doing this a long time and spend the money to do what I do legally (permission license and so on). I am in the process of taken care of it legally and as far as the social media it was posted on, it was reported but thanks for the tips. As far as posting it on sites I don't do that much just do them as request and for reasons mentioned, but that is changing also. Again thanks for the tips but it's all being taken care of.
  24. No not here. What happened was someone asked through social media if I could make a portrait pattern of a popular person for them. After searching for a photo I got permission to use from the owner as I couldn't find one "free to use". I make the pattern for free as I do for a lot of scrollers. Not even a day after giving it to them, it popped up on his social media in a collage with other patterns in small format (some I know were other designers) claiming them as their design for sale for $4 a piece. That's what ticked me off more than anything as after taking the time to make it for free he's trying to make money off it along with other designs from designers, not counting having their name on them like they made them. I know if it was an issue here, I would've never posted it. I would've handled it privately with Travis. This post from eariler was kinda a rant I suppose but more of a warning to the fellow designers that post patterns here and on the other fourms out there. Just because they aren't posting them on the fourms, doesn't mean they aren't stealing them. Thanks for the ones that I haven't offended and want to apoligize for maybe going extreme with my choice of words it just pissed me off not just for stealing it but for trying to make money off it after I didn't take money from this person to make it, in which I was offered a payment but didn't take it and now I'm probably better off by not taking the payment b/c who knows that may have come from someone else and caused even more problems.
  25. Basically people taking someone's design and sharing it to others as their design... I'm not saying anything about someone using a design to make something and do whatever they do with the project I'm talking about the pattern itself. That's why we all post, sale patterns is for them to be used to make things but not claim the patterns as their own... But obviouslly this has chapped a few so I'll not post anymore about it... I make patterns and love to see them made into projects by others but not sale them or post them as their's... It's one thing to share them without giving at least credit to the maker but another when someone takes the time to make one and then someone sales them... I won't be making them for anyone anymore, and now see why I don't post much because what I say offends others when I'm morally right.. If someone wants a design, well I'll make it into a finished project and they can pay for that but no more patterns free or pay... Again guess I've offended some but like mentioned earlier I don't care.
