  1. Congrats Kevin. New toys are always a fun thing. I'm going to buy a sliding miter saw too but I'm going smaller. I've been reading a lot about the 10" one that H/F has and the price is in my range. I'll have a 12" Dewalt compound miter saw for sale to cover some of the cost. I've been wanting one for a while and the 12" is just to big and heavy for me. If I had the space, I'd put it on a rolling stand but the table saw is the only rolling tool I have room for. Maybe after I get done enclosing my driveway I'll have a bit more space. Anyway, I can't wait to hear all about your new stuff.
  2. Welcome to the village. Tell us about yourself so we can be of more help.
  3. We just rolled into Kingman and it's over 100. Not sure we can live in it. We asked ourselves if we should be even considering it at 78 years of age. Maybe the smart move for us is no move. How much time do we have left?
  4. We have tossed around finding some place to escape to. Our RVing days are behind us once we get home. Too old and the highways suck. We've wintered in Mesa at a huge resort and loved tge weather. I know the summers are very hot but for what? 3 months? Maybe we could rent a place in the White Mtns or some other cool place. We're going to go looking in the Fall. Time will tell.
  5. Been watching Realtor.com and they send me new listings and price drops. Lots to choose from. We just have to be sure moving into an oven is the right thing to do. It's tough giving up our beach weather. Today it's in the mid 60's. I'm in Meteor Crater and it's HOT!
  6. I know what you mean. If not for being able to use my driveway, I'd not have enough room for anything more than I have now.
  7. Barb, I have a smaller shop than you I'll bet. But what I'm going to do is build one of those flip top cabinets to hold my sander and my planer. I'm going to be enclosing the driveway just in front of my shop so that I can have some of my equipment outside and secure.
  8. I was wondering what type of stuff you would listen to. Many years ago I followed a guy who was on radio every Saturday afternoon and answered computer/tech questions but I always forgot to tune in so I'd listen to his podcast.
  9. I just installed the google app but I will get the iheart radio one too. What podcasts do you listen to? How do you know what is available?
  10. Dick, we may be moving to one of the suburbs around Phoenix next year so I will have to take lessons from you. We will be looking at all the 55+ Sun City developments. Home prices there are still affordable.
  11. Just what I need is another hobby. Thanks! But, I'll put it on my bucket list,. We may be moving in the future and if I end up with a shop that permits more stuff, I'll add one of those to it.
  12. Plus 1 for the Ridgid. Love it. I also have the little H/F 1" belt sander pictured along with the 4" x 36" belt sander. I use all 3 of them for many projects.
  13. I guess what I meant was where/how do you find the podcast? that's something else I'm not familiar with.
  14. I'm not sure I understand how those earphones work. I still don't understand how "bluetooth" works. Can either of you guys explain it to me? If I understand it I might have to invest in a pair. Les you said you listen to podcasts. How do you do that? Where do the headphones pick up what you are listening to?
  15. I commend you on your second job. Working with anybody who is in need of help is a very good thing and so rewarding. My daughter and her adopted son, our grandson, are working with the homeless people down in L.A.. Our grandson is afflicted with fetal alcohol syndrome. His mother was an alcoholic in Kazakhstan. I have no idea how to spell that.
  16. I don't have a lathe or the desire to make my own clamp screws but I'm totally interested in this thread. I too love to make stuff so it is of interest to me. If I was younger, I might have to buy a small metal lathe but I have no room and another learning curve may not be in my lifetime.
  17. Not to hijack this thread but a question for those of you who are following this thread. I'm toying with the purchase of the Carter guide system. Not the stabilizer but the guides. I'd like to know who has them, what you think of them and would you recommend that I buy a set? Please, don't just say I need them because you bought them. I want to know if they improved your saw and would you buy them again? My saw cuts pretty well now with the stock guide system but I'd like to improve it if possible. Thanks.
  18. Very nice. I'm going to give it a try on my saw. I have resawed before but it was on my true Delta bandsaw. This one is a Chinese Delta but it seems to do everything I ask it to do.
  19. Do you resaw with it?
  20. Exactly my magnetic fence works. Totally adjustable.
  21. For a standard 14" bandsaw a 1/2" is the max recommended.
  22. I bought a couple of bar magnets from H/F when they were on sale. I'm going to make a low fence and a tall fence. When they are stuck to the table, they don't move and easily removed when not needed.
  23. Les, if you are as deaf as you say you are, why would you need to cancel any noise? You can hear it so why cancel it?
  24. I went to Amazon and typed in diamond files. I found nothing in that price range.
  25. Les, when you go to Amazon and find the ones you bought, go up to the address bar, click on it and then right click. It will give you an option to copy. So copy it and then go to this place on SSV and right click again. This time, instead of copy, hit paste. That will place the link where you want it.
