  1. Here in central Arizona we have had now 30 days of 110 degrees or higher. Still counting. But this 83 year ol'fogy prefers that over shoveling snow or cleaning up after a flood. John Old Dust Scrollers do not have "scrap wood". We only have a constant diminishing dementional inventory.
  2. A friend of the family made this shop apron for me. It features antique scroll saws. I added the coffee stain. John Old Dust
  3. I donated it for auction to my fund raising charity. I do not know what it raised. John Old Dust
  4. This was started by another scroller who passed away. It was about 50% finished. I was asked to finish it. It took me about a year to finish. John Old Dust

  6. I have used Gorilla Glue to glue sawtooh hangers and have had no problems. John Old Dust
  7. I have an Excalibur 21 The actual wood size is 1 1/2 X 1 1/2" Pine. The hole or slot I am talking about is the one on the table that the blade goes thru. Blade FD#7. John Old Dust
  8. I was doing compound cuttings of 2X2 and was breaking blades left & right. Even though I had tight tension I was pushing the wood too hard and thus bending the blade which then touched the edge of the blade hole in the table. Yes I know; Scrolling 101; go slow and let the saw do the work. So now I do not push hard and also have to find a way to enlarge the hole. All my grinding stones for my Dremel are to large to fit in the slot. Any suggestions? John Old Dust

  10. As some of you know, 98% of my scroll saw work is to raise funds for my favorite charity, the Arizona Lions Clubs Handicapped Camp. ( arizonalionscamp.org) I just sent them another $1,000.00 which makes my total over $48,000.00 up to now. I used to travel the state to do craft shows but cannot handle them anymore. I am 82 now so I mainly bar hop with some samples and also have a wall display in a local Cafe. A few months after the camping season I get some pictures of the campers I have been able to help that year and their smiling faces make it all worth it. Pick out your favorite charity and devote some time to help support it. You'll feel great about it. John Old Dust

  19. Several times that I had an oversized pattern I was able to complete it by putting the blade in backwards. It takes a little time to cut backwards but was able to finish the pattern. John Old Dust

  22. When I started scrolling, many years ago, some of the best advice I received were; 1. Buy the best saw you can afford. 2. Cut SLOW, let the saw do the work. 3. Join an online scroll saw group. I believe they all still apply. What can you add? John Old Dust
  23. Here are a few signs. John Old Dust
  24. As some of you know I do over 95% of my scroll saw craft as a fundraiser for the Arizona Lions Clubs Handicapped Camp Tatiyee. www.arizonalionscamp.org In years past I would attend craft shows all over the state but "Ol' Fartness" has caught up and can no longer travel. (I,m now 81.) However I still do bar hopping with some samples as well as have a local Cafe display wall. My original target was $50,000.00 when I started years ago, but will keep doing the best I can. Each year, after the camping season, They would send me some pictures of the kids activities. That makes it all worth while. John Old Dust
