  1. Nice work
  2. I use blue painters tape to hold stack together then spray glue to hold pattern. I will also use spray glue directly on the wood and then use heat gun to remove then clean up w/spirits.
  3. Thank you for the kind words. I have found that the challenge when doing portrait patterns is the actual photo, the older the photo (and i'm talking 10 yrs or more) the more difficult it is to get the shadowing correct, this is what gives the pattern life. You have to decide how much detail to give the portrait and I have found that sometimes less is more. Thanks again Art
  4. This latest portrait was my toughest yet, 320 holes in this one. I started with a Spiral then went with flat blades because the spiral was too much for some of the more delicate areas like the eyes. I stack cut 7 pieces of 1/8 BB. I used gimp to create the pattern.
  5. Just a suggestion: more lights down center.
  6. Very nice Kevin..
  7. Good ole Sgt Shultz. Nice job.
  8. Started off by keeping lots af detail and then realized that less is better. I tried to capture most of the detais from the shadowing but found that it just distorted the pattern so i went with less detail and it was actually better. Thanks for looking
  9. Started in the fall of 2011, still a newbe......
  10. I built my stand using the kenneth plan provided by steve good and it works great, of course i added a couple of features like live power and switched power. For the anti vibration i used a section of horse stall mat but you can use carpet or something else. Good luck
  11. Just because you are on ss disability does not mean you cannot work. You can work but there is a limit as to how much you can make. My wife is on ss disability unfortunately she cannot work. A friend of mine was also on it and he made too much and had his benefits pulled. Get a good local ss attorney and you will be fine. If you qualified before you should again. Good luck.
  12. Thanks for the advice guy's
  13. A friend gave me a Grizzly dust collector with a number of gates along with the pvc. I have a stand-by whole house generator system that the circuit will be tied to. Rubber mats are a good idea, the tile floor is a good one too. Someone suggested building up the floor but i think that is a bit much, the home is 8 yrs old and super dry. I am looking for kitchen cabinets from a remodel that someone wants to dump too. Lighting, lighting, lighting is what I am told too. My biggest concern is outside walls.
  14. I am planning to work on my basement shop this winter or whenever the time permits and was wondering what everyone else has done with their shops. I thought that maybe those with a completed shop wouldn't mind sharing ideas and photos of there shop. It would kinda help. My space is approx 15'x26' with 10' ceiling unfinished. I would have to close in duct work and plumbing by installing a drop ceiling. Thanks Art
  15. Thanks Sully, i will look into that.
  16. Welcome Paul
  17. Hi Lorn, welcome and happy scrolling. Art from Howell Michigan, USA
  18. Thank you for the feedback. The main reason I built the booth was because of my wife. You see, she has COPD a chronic lung disease and odors such as those of paint, stain or oils cause her breathing issues. I am hoping this will alleviate this issue. Again thanks
  19. I'd like to share my paint booth photos with everyone with more pics in my album. This was inexpensive to build, I started with a cabinet base that someone was throwing out along with a long base as well (i will use that one for a bench). I had an idea of what i wanted and put it on paper and here is the end result. I installed a slot for a furnace filter before a bathroom exhaust fan venting out the basement window, installed 2 dual bulb floresent lights, 2 switches, one for the fan and the other for the lights and the 2 outlets that I installed on the side. I added a pvc conduit at the top for a snower curtain to confine the fumes within the booth. I have only used it once and it seemed to have worked fine. Unfortunately I was down due to rotator cuff surgery from jan-june and was not able to do much of anything and now it's summer and no time for scrolling Soon I will really be putting it to the test. Thanks for looking and Happy scrolling...... Art ps. I also want to show you my very first portrait using gimp , I thought it came out quite well myself. Well, it made my wife cry anyway A special thank you to Travis and SSVU.
  20. The only problem that I could see is that if you are doing finishes. The furnace will burn off the gasses from finishes and give a unburned gas odor. I found this out when using our gas cook stove upstairs so I built a finishing booth. Haven't had much time lately to use it but it seemed to work ok when I did. One of these days I will upload the photos. Use extra filters in your cold air return too. Art
  21. I like it DW, very nice.
  22. Can you say "New furniture"
  23. Always enjoyed working with wood but was never that good at it. After my father passed away in 2011, I was going through his tools and found a delta 40-550 (I think think thats the model) and tried it out. Well I made name plaques for Christmas because I have always wanted to make gifts for Christmas and liked it so much that I wanted to do intricate stuff so I searched the web for more info and found SSV, Steve Good and others. As I learned from my research I went on craigs list and found a 788 like new for $225 and bought it. I had old barn oak but needed to plane it so I went on craigs list again and got a dewalt 12 1/2" planer. I have since scrolled clocks, angels, crosses and best yet was a portrait of my mother in-law using gimp TRAINING BY SSVU. I have yet to put it in the gallery here. I still have a lot more to learn. Thanks to Dad
  24. Looks good. Cabinet and shelf space is the way to go. Working on my shop but finding time this time of year is hard. Have you thought about hooking up to propane instead of NG for furnace? Good luck. Art
  25. Working on 6 clocks (each different), 10" mahogany angel, praying hands, cross. Have not decided how to finish yet........art
