  1. I am so jealous. Wish I could be there.
  2. Absolutely stunning. That is my favorite style, even though I haven't done them for years.
  3. Selling your old blades??? You must go through a lot of blades! How many blades to a pound? What's a pound of scrap steel going for? LOL
  4. Another vote for Johnson's paste wax. Use it all the time on everything, including my finished scroll saw pieces when they aren't too intricate. A can lasts for years. I rub it on the scroll saw table with 0000 steel wool.
  5. Any wood that works for the project. Mahogany is quite soft so you should have been fine. Maybe the wrong size or type of blade? For a lot of straight lines I would us at least a 5, maybe higher if it didn't have a lot of turns.
  6. My gosh. You guys did it. I will download all of them and go from there. Wonderful job.
  7. OK. Thanks for trying. I did read the instructions about the biggest picture possible but couldn't find one. I'll keep looking for a better one.
  8. Our beloved Rufus just went to doggie heaven. He was an old soul that must have come back to earth several times because everybody loved him and he was kind and gentle. He was 11 years young but got lymphoma cancer that took him in about a month. I would love to cut him to hang on our wall. The problems is all the white--I don't want it to just be a huge void with no texture. Can any of you make me a pattern? I now the picture is not real large but it is the best one I have. I'll want to make him 9" or 10" square. Thanks. I do appreciate anything you can do.
  9. Great work. Well done!
  10. I will argue with each and every soul that says an arm lifter is not necessary. I went for 8 years without one...used a block of wood. I splurged last year and got the Jim Dandy, mentioned above, and it is the single best purchase I have made. Yes, it is a top feeder, but every time you put the arm up you have to block it to keep it up while you feed the blade through the hole in the wood...at least if you are doing a fret work. Now I just push the arm up and it stays there. I can't understand why that is not part of the package. As for lights I have an old one from somewhere that has a big magnet base. It just sits way back on the saw's table and I can adjust it. Sorry no help about where it came from but it works great.
  11. I have used the EX-21 extensively, but don't own one. I have the Dewalt. I would buy the EX-21 over the Dewalt in a minute, if I could justify the cost. It is definitely a better saw. But my Dewalt works just great. I've never had a problem with it. And for 1/2 the cost of the EX it fits my needs perfectly. I've owned it for 8 or 9 years, even packed it around in the back of the truck for 3 years when I full-timed in an RV.
  12. I have bought ink for my HP and Cannon at comboink.com for years. Most of it is actually made in China. I get the large economy packs of 15-20 cartridges at a time. It is a fraction of the cost and has always worked flawlessly. Makes the cost of ink almost insignificant.
  13. I've used both and own the 788. If you think the 788 is too aggressive why not just slow it down? That really sounds like a non issue to me. I do think the EX-21 is a more refined and smoother saw. If you can afford it, go for the EX-21. But you won't be unhappy with the 788. I thought about buying the EX-21, just couldn't justify the difference as I do many other crafts. If it were my only or main craft I probably would buy one.
  14. I love it. We had unlimited Cholla here in southern AZ and that gives me some ideas.
  15. Here's a great one that I did, from Wooden Teddy Bear: https://www.woodenteddybearonline.com/x/product.php?productid=2417
  16. Beautiful job. Love the pattern.
  17. Perfect job. Wow!
  18. Very nice.
  19. Cute and fun.
  20. Some were wondering about the pine needles I use for my baskets. Here is an Eagle design by Landry where I am still coiling. Not a great picture but if you look closely you can see the process. The needles bundled together are what I usually use. The ones being coiled are some weird ones I'm trying--thin but very long. All of from the Southern Long Leaf Pine Trees. No needles here in AZ except very short ones. Earl
  21. Len, I have been making pine needle baskets for about 15 years. I used to sell them in a gallery but now sell at a couple shows near Christmas time. You can't use green needles because when they dry they will shrink and make a loose basket. Generally use them dry unless I need to do a sharp corner or tight turn, then I will dampen them so they won't break. That wasn't the case here.
  22. I don't do many scroll saw projects that stand on their own but usually incorporate them other work. Here is one I recently finished using it as a base for a pine needle basket. Now that I live in AZ I buy pine needles from Florida! The ones here are about 4" long and would not work.
  23. Great job. Looks like I need to get some new spirals. Mine won't make near that fine of line that I see in your work. It looks really nice.
  24. Thanks for the hint, Larry. I just ordered one.
