  1. Now that you have some poly on, I'd add a coat or 2 more. It looks to me as if it has absorbed much of the finish.
  2. Nice piece. " everyone knows what straight lines and letters are supposed to look like so there isn't any room for error." Truer words are hard to find. Add duplicating curves on opposite sides of the cutting. Any deviation in height, width or curvature sticks out like a sore thumb.
  3. That was great and it Reminded me of "Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport". I Googled it and didn't realize was the same bloke. Must have been 15 or 16 here in the states when I 1st heard that tune. Looked at the deleted verse and chuckled that the other musicians turned down 10% royalties and took 28 pound sterling instead. I spend far too much time on my laptop. lol
  4. 34 Years in the metals service industry, I never saw any wax being used on our bandsaw blades. The Do-alls ran an oil based lubricant and the bandsaws we used for up to 6" thick aluminum shapes and circles ran the same type of coolant that our large plate saws ran. Maybe wax is used on smaller machines. Doesn't seem like it would be very effective for any length of time and I think Osha may frown on applying wax on a running saw blade.
  5. I'll have to check out Kokomo, I usually buy from Delphi now that Spectrum has closed. I don't paint much glass, usually foil and occasionally leaded. Thanks.
  6. Is the glass painted? I don't see any lead or foil.
  7. My step father used to cut it a lot. He lived in a very small town ,so I assume it is readily available. I remember looking at his saw and telling him his blade was upside down. He said that was how he cut plastic.
  8. I think any water based color would raise the grain some but, not severely. Just knock it down with a scuff pad or sandpaper. I personally would not prefinish because the experience I've had with prefinishes is they seal the wood and while they do minimize bleeding they often obscure the grain. I like to use aniline dyes because they don't cloud the grain, you can mix any color imaginable and you can mix any intensity you want. You can even wash some out if you decide it's too bright. Play around with some scrap and don't forget to apply some sort of top coat. The color wash will look OK but the clear finish will really make it pop. Think of how good cherry or some other woods look after applying an oil finish of some sort. You'll feel that smile growing as the piece comes to "life."
  9. Great prices, $10.00 per gross cheaper than Bear Woods but it looks like I have to place 3 separate orders to get what I want. I get 1 size fine but adding another size seems to increase the amount of the 1st.
  10. Very nice. I understand the cat piece, I tend to cut most things 30% to 50% smaller than intended because I'm using up a lot of wood I originally bought for intarsia but got sidetracked by fretwork.
  11. I have some small wooden wheels and axles left over from some toy trucks I made awhile back. I think they may work. If you Google clear finishes for trivets, you'll find many suggestions. A lot recommend oil and oil based mixes and I even saw one that used Clear VHT spray finish that withstands heat up to 900 degrees! (it is intended for disc break calipers. lol)
  12. I personally would put feet on them to dispel excess heat and avoid buildup of moisture. Are you talking 1/2" nominal? I have some 3/4" exotic hardwood I purchased intended for intarsia that may end up being trivets.
  13. Complete with foot switch. Wonder if Pegas has a blade clamp conversion.
  14. A really good use of saw dust! I need to do that also. Comes in handy when cutting hardwoods especially. Even if I don't cut much inlay.
  15. I have my vac in a closet near my saw and use a remote switch to use it. Hose runs through the wall. Pretty quiet.
  16. After living in the Republic of Panama and Mexico for nearly 7 years, I have to say, learning a new language is much easier for children than it is for us older folks. For me, it was easier to "speak" Spanish than it was to understand Spanish "spoken" to me. Everything seemed so fast it was hard for me to keep up.
  17. What for? Everything seems intact to me.
  18. Nice cutting. I have a t-shirt with a picture of a Rhino that says "Save The Chubby Unicorns!" Gets some very peculiar looks. lol Isn't a rino a Republican in name only?
  19. Sounds like it would have to be...Steve Good says " Let's talk about the Excalibur for a minute. This saw has gone through a manufacturing company change in the last year. They moved manufacturing from Taiwan to China. I think there have been startup problems with the new manufacturer. I only have limited first-hand knowledge of this issue. I have personally seen two Chinese manufactured EX21 saws that had to be returned with shipping damage. I do also have some second-hand knowledge of shipping damage from several emails I received from my readers. I am confident they will get these issues resolved quickly but I wanted to share this with you so you make sure you buy from someone with a good return policy just in case you need to return it. The Excalibur is a great saw but moving manufacturing is always a big challenge." Like I said, I'm not in the market.
  20. were you able to open both files?
  21. Saw this in Steve Goods email this morning. Amazon deal. No stand but, Excalibur - EX-21 21" Tilting Head Scroll Saw with Foot switch $599.99 I'm not in the market but seems like a good deal
  22. Couldn't open the file but saving the gear image and using snip tool on sign for the letters should suffice. I'm gonna have to play with this one. Thanks
  23. I just added a hepa filter to my cheap, rather low powered Porter Cable shop vac for $16.00. Needed a bit of modification but nothing too tough. The filter claims filtration down to 0.3 microns. Years ago I had a large Ryobi shop vac that attached to my table saw and also a downdraft sanding station. It was loud but I duct taped a fine bag type filter (probably not HEPA quality) ro the exhaust and took care of much of the fine dust. Decibel level still pretty high though.
