    DeWalt DW788

I have been extremely pleased with my DeWalt 788 for many years. It cuts precisely, has the best features which should matter, and the blades change in a snap. The biggest drawback, IMO, is that the motor feels a little tired when cutting thicker stock, but does the job well. This might explain the longevity issue some folks bring up. I cut mostly thin stock, however, and it cuts like a champ. If you plan on cutting thick wood frequently, this saw will still be a great choice, but you might want to invest in an even costlier saw with a step up in Amperage.
  2. Very nice work! Your script cutting is exceptionally well done.
  3. My favorite old sci-fi movies were the Japanese "Kaiju" monster movies (Godzilla, etc). Nothing beat watching one of those when I got home from school. I loved them all, though. I remember the original "The Thing" scared the poop out of me......kept me up all night, LOL.
  4. Even when not cutting jigsaw puzzles, when cutting 1/4" stock, and aiming for intricate cuts, i like my puzzle blades . The 31 TPI will ensure several teeth in contact with the wood at all times. With solid oak, however, the blade will dull more quickly than with oak ply, which has a softwood core.
  5. Hi, Tony! I'm from WNY as well (the north side of Buffalo, though, up near Lake Ontario) Just drove through your neck of the woods recently on a trip to Chautauqua (we love it there!) Happy scrolling, and happy puzzling!
  6. Great advice! I've had the same issues with my DeWalt recently, and after trying the sanding (I just free handed it) and failing, I got lazy and just ordered replacement clamps (just a few bucks). I like your jig, though, and next time I'll try it first.
  7. Really nice job! That'll look sweet hanging in her dorm.
  8. Yup, the forum is currently live.....a few small glitches seem to be appearing, but hopefully they'll be sorted out soon. The url is indeed different, and you can link to it from the magazine's homepage. I haven't really spent time here at SSV in the past, probably because of the time I commit to the other forum, but I'm glad I landed in this thread recently after following a link. After poking around a bit, Scrollsaw Village really is a nice site, and I recognize a lot of "faces" I'll be sure to stop by more often.....i think it's great, and I popped my $10 in the pot yesterday. I think the more resources like this for scrollers, the better.
  9. Great job! I'm a sucker for anything with dragons in it. Very cool.
  10. Hi, gang.... As others have said, the forum is just down temporarily while they change over to new software. From my understanding, they want the new forum to look and operate very nicely when it goes live, and that includes importing all of the member attachments over, and appropriately allocating them, before that happens. Hopefully it will be back very soon......I miss it as much as everyone else (especially at times like this, when a new issue comes out.) For what it's worth, I've had a chance to see the new beta forum, and it looks very nice! If folks would like updates on the progress, they are periodically posted on www.scrollsawer.com, and there have also been several updates on the magazine's Facebook page.
