This piece was completed just a few days before we left for our trip.  I did not have the time to do a write up and post it. So here it is.
I adapted a free Stained Glass Pattern into an 8 1/2” diameter pattern for Intarsia.  The original art is by Leslie Gibbs.  My pattern includes an optional Octagon Frame that results in an overall all 10 1/4” x 10 1/4” piece.  Wood used: Aspen, Basswood, Poplar, Orange Osage (Orangeheart would have been a better choise), Wenge and Granadillo for the Frame.  I applied an Acrylic Aqua Blue paint-wash with an air brush to the Basswood for the water and used rattle can spray Clear Gloss Acrylic for the Finish.

Comments and critiques are always welcome.
I'll post the patttern in PATTERN EXCHANGE.

Hawk, that is really nice of you to make them for the whole class, good part is that she doesn't have 40 class mates, excellent job on the crosses, RJ

Welcome back! I did way too much traveling while in the Navy. I stay pretty close to home due in large part to the experience you had at the airports. Glad you made it home.

Quick story, I made a resin fill cross for my wife who's graduating her Chaplin coures on the 29th. (Pic) I told her I made 2, so she wanted to give the other to the instructor of the class. I told her I was ok with that. She then looked at me and asked " cannyou make 8 more for my classmates?". After some thought I said not the resin fill but I have other patterns, so that gave me about 2 weeks, challenge accepted!
I'm still working full time and house stuff to do, but I believe I'll make it! On to clean up, paint the backer, glue the cross on, slap on some poly.....done!(lol)

Another Cross for my wife. I'm getting a handle on the frame work. This is a stained glass pattern and the frame work  is about 1/16th wide cut from 1/8 ply. I have found that painting it copper helps the resin to pop. Backer is also 1/8 ply painted silver. For me the resin gives me a much larger color pallet over stained glass or acrylic. And so much easier to work with.

This first job will more than pay for the machine. This is an easy job because they brought me the cutting boards and supplied  the graphics. Standard laser engrave rate is $1 a minute for laser time, and it takes me  17 minutes each. Got one done so 209 more to go. lol

Twenty-four days on a cruise ship traveling across the Atlantic to end in Barcelona, Spain is a lot of Eating, drinking, port of call excursions, sun-bathing, whirlpool dunking, more drinking and of course by the time the cruise is over you have caught an upper respiratory infection and are feeling miserable.  That’s my story.
Then we spend a Week in Barcelona, Spain doing tours we had preplanned like Montserrat with me hacking and coughing all the way.   All the tours included a lot of walking which my lady, Robin, has difficulty with due to a recent hip injury.  The two of us made a fine pair of typical tourist.  Got a lot of pics that I haven’t had chance to even look at yet.  We did enjoy our Pealla Cooking Class we attended.
Then we took the train from Barcelona to Paris having to handle four large suitcases, two small drag-a-long’s, Robins tote bag, and my camera backpack.  No porter type service, you get the picture.
Now, I’m starting to feel a wee bit better, but it’s Robins turn to get sick with the upper respiratory infection I gave her. Both of us have ear infections and can’t hear well.  Even with my hearing aids, I was (and still am) totally deaf in my left ear.   Again, our tours in Parris were a LOT of walking and eating.  We did enjoy our Cooking Class and of course our trip to the Eiffel Tower and a Lunch (more like a fine dinner) on the second level of the tower was something not to be missed.
Then the flight home…another test of our endurance.  Robin is now really sick, and my energy level is low.  Finally got our bags checked and had to work our way through security and customs, not a fun ordeal.   The flight to Boston was a long 8 hours.  Now again through US Customs and the need to change terminals…a good half mile apart, for a five-hour layover. Then the three-hour Flight to Orlando, Florida, after which we had a long walk to claim our bags, and get to the car rental for our ride home to our home in Ormond Beach Fl.   Arriving three minutes after midnight.
While in Boston waiting for the connecting flight, Robin called our doctor and made us appointments for yesterday.   We are now on strong antibiotics and cough medicine.  It will be a week, hopefully, before we are back to normal.
Despite being tiring and getting sick, this trip was enjoyable.  And, if nothing else, we can say we were there!
Now it’s soon time to get back in the shop, but first I have to do yard work that was ignored for six weeks.

An owl switch plate. 1/8" BB plywood+1/8" backer, fits over the switch with the original screws.  Cut as a double stack with 2/0 FD Polar blades, outside cut after laminating the backer. One coat thinned shellac, several coats glow in the dark paint.
I forgot to add; owl design from a Steve Good pattern, the rest mine.

For me personally,  I've used the headband type, and a magnifying lamp. Both worked good bur nowadays I use what Looks more like glasses. It Me with several different lenses in different strengths. The lenses do flip up outa the way if needed ,It does have an LED, but it's pretty much useless as I have plenty of light on my saws.
    Good luck

I do not see anything listed in their parts.  You should call and ask.  Hope is very nice to deal with.  Where I live, I would just for a newer used one.  They are cheap in the NW.  I got a nice 226vs for $275, and I have put about $100 more into it for upgrades and just things I wanted to add.  Actually I would look for a good use Hegner.   All said and done, Hegner is the saw for me.

A Kathy Wise pattern. Pretty easy to make, although I would reduce the size next time. Curly maple and mahogany flowers dyed red and yellow. Poplar body dyed green. Misc ground pieces. I assembled the flowers first. In retrospect, I should be started from the middle and worked outward.  Still fun!  Onto a toy train for the grandkid!

"Life is what happens when you make plans" - some wise person once said.
Between an unheated garage, a friend who keeps roping in to help him do handy man work, and a wife who has an endless supply of "honey do this", I haven't done much cutting for these past several months.
But the saw dust gods and fairies intervened the past few days, (plus warmer weather) making it possible to get some cutting time in.
The Delaware sign is a Shelia Landry Design, cut from a recycled maple kitchen cabinet door.  Cutting the letters out was an exercise in patience and concentration.
And the dough bowl I power carved a log from a friends black cherry tree, primarily using an angle grinder and wood cutting wheels.
Both were a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to doing more.

Funny story,  I posted this before showing it to my wife. As part of her journey to become a Priest she, along with others on the same journey,  are in a class that has them doing Chaplin work at a local Covenant Hospital.  They graduate on May 29. She commented after seeing the cross " wouldn't it be nice if I could give everyone in my class one? I asked how many in the class. She said 7. I responded " challenge accepted."
Instead of 7 of the pictured cross as there is only 2 gals in the class, I'm going with a Sue Mey pattern for the guys.
    Let the saw dust fly!!!!
